FULL TITLE: Father of kidnapped Tennessee teen divorces her mother, accusing her of 'beating the girl and locking her in the basement' before the 15-year-old was 'snatched' by teacher
The 15-year-old Tennessee girl who was allegedly kidnapped by her teacher for more than a month was vulnerable to predators because of the abuse she faced at her mother's hands, court documents say.
Elizabeth Thomas was taken away by 'boyfriend' Tad Cummins, 50, on March 13, authorities say.
The pair were found in an isolated hut in rural California, 2,500 miles away, on April 20.
Now Elizabeth's father claims in divorce documents filed Monday that his wife Kimberly engaged in a year-long campaign of abuse against the girl.
He says the mother of ten beat the teenager and locked her in a basement - leaving her open to 'grooming'.

There is much more to this story and it is really none of our business, but I suspect that the girl’s family knew of and condoned her relationship with the teacher.
In no way does that make the their ‘relationship’ right, but just points to disfunction in the family.
Yep, that’s what I think too.
There’s a lot we don’t know.
No of course an adult man should not take off with an underage girl. But, she likely wanted to go with him, to escape a bad situation at home. And it’s likely he took advantage of her and encouraged her.
Another chance permits itself and she is gone again for sure
Since this began felt the father was either “out of touch” or just in a position to not know what was going on for reasons I will never understand.
Never mind the teacher, how can your own wife be abusing 5 of your kids and you not know? Yes he was on the road a lot with his job but no one told him? So you are telling me they kept him in the dark that well? To look at his soon to be ex wife she dies not appear all that intelligent as to hide that kind of abuse.
It’s screwed-up.
Each time I read a story about these events, I feel guilty, it’s like passing a bad car wreck.
Tad should get locked-up and everyone else should be left alone, they all have enough problems.
And that poor girl, she seems to have no good options.
When it all is revealed, Tad might have been her best option.
And thus another “Lifetime” movie is born.
When I remember my wonderful parents it makes me sad to think of kids who grow up with abusive ones.
People mock “Leave it to Beaver” and “Father Knows Best”. but those families were far far closer to our real home than the crap which they show now.
I saw on the local news yesterday that some guy had tortured his 2 and 4 year old kids. Actually not sure they were his but he needs to be removed from this earth as soon as possible.

Please understand me I in no way condone what Tad did but compared to that bloated sack of protoplasm she called a mother you may be correct.
Yep this could easily become a sad Lifetime movie.
If you are gone most of the time for work and become a visitor in your own home a lot can happen without you knowing.
Child abuse happened back then and before just was not heard about and to this extent.
A lot of our child abuse comes from Mommy’s new boyfriend or Daddy’s new girlfriend, something that was not common in your and my day.
It’s always been well known that a step parent is more likely to abuse a child over the real parent but in today’s world they don’t even marry it’s just BF or GF.

Said his job kept him gone a lot and for long hours traveling. Still it’s a bad situation when the only people telling him his children are being hurt is the police/cps.
This situation is not uncommon, I have worked in family law and have been involved in cases where parents were divorcing and neither one of them wanted the kids or one specific kid.
On a couple occasions, I had to explain to a 10-12 year old child that neither parent wanted them.
After doing that, I stepped into my my office, screamed, smashed things, kicked things and cried like a baby.
I would rather work with axe murderers than deal with that kind of divorce.

I cannot come out and say exactly that, but I do not at all disagree with that.
When a child is being abused it's everybody's business to stop it.

Long time ago read something like this in a “Dear Abby” column. One of the parents had written in explaining they were getting a divorce yet neither parents wanted the kids. The father was like to the mother “you had them you take care of them” and the mother just had no interest at all. The writer told Dear Abby the children were given up for adoption. Will suppose it’s better that way then be with parents who won’t love you.
This “Dear Abby” letter was in response to something else that another person had written in. Something about both parents not wanting the kids.
Would seem decades later this still goes on, not surprised however seeing people get married for all the wrong reasons then produce children they don’t love.
My wife works with some kids like that. It is very difficult at times, even for me and I’m far removed from the situation.
The abuse would be criminal and hopefully they state can address the issue.
However, being the center ring in a media circus is not going to help any of the kids.
As for the adults, they all seem to be absolute S-Heads and the kids are victims.
I don’t give a damn about any of the adults.
