Good. Maybe that A-hole can now concentrate all of his time complaining about the Rebel Flag.

When they made it a celebrity focus on the drivers and not the manufacturers - that was the beginning of the end. When they took the cigarette lighters out of the cars - it was over. It's all about candy and soda pop and crap.

Bring back the Oldsmobile's, the Dodge's - push rods. . . .

[42 years old & a net worth of over 300 million? I’d retire, too.]

Yep, why risk your neck anymore?

I think he is retiring because of the gorgeous women he married.

Saw this coming. A few weeks ago one of the commentators mentioned that Jr. said to them that he would have a hard time continuing racing if he won a championship. That mindset tells you that he is really not having fun at what he is doing. As a Jr. fan I am not upset about his retirement. If enjoyment could be found in it for him, I wouldn’t mind seeing him as an owner. He has shown he has a keen ability to scout talent. Enjoy your life Dale, you only get one.

My father has an account at MIS and Bristol. We would go there every summer with about 13 other people in tow. I was an amazing time. But this was back when Rusty and Sr. were battling it out. NASCAR, as it is now, is almost unrecognizable from those days. I Maybe watch 3 races a season whereas missing one used to be unthinkable. Gimmick after Gimmick after Gimmick...in “stages” That’s NASCAR today. Its’ amazing to me that guys like Richard Petty still have the stomach to support it.

Luckily, no one was seriously hurt. He got burned taking the camp stove out. The guys next to him had a fire extinguisher, but the inside of his van was a disaster.................

???? How many times has he won? Johnson? I would like to see a one team owner and one who has never won the championship win. I know...that will not happen ever again.

That about the cigarette lighter is true...I worked for a driver in the early 70’s (Elmo Langley)...He smoked during the race...He had a lighter in the car....

Tiny Lund had to get a relief driver at Charlotte once...The only driver he could get was G C Spencer...Tiny was a big guy and G C was like a toothpick...

After just a few laps, G C came in, got out, and said he was getting beat to death bouncing around in Tiny’s oversized seat....

When Raymond Williams started, he bought Bill Seifert’s second car...he had no sponsor...

He pulled in at Atlanta and came running over to us in the pits and said he got sponsor...

He pulled the dar cover off and had a huge Bali-Hi wine sticker on...

I ask him how much money he got...he said not very much, but look....he opened his trailer and it was full of cases of wine...*LOL*

NASCAR died in February,2001. As someone in the medical field and who has a son that has had 2 concussions I think he is making the right decision. 4 years later, my son’s personality is still not quite the same. Each time you get a concussion it gets easier to get another one. I’d choose family over any number of neurological problems he would face if he keeps racing.

I agree. He shouldn’t wait until the end of the year. He should get out now. One more bad concussion and he’s done for. Everyone remember Steve Parks?
