You might have gotten that from the article but I don't think he came out and said it like that. The Adamses and Harrisons, even the Roosevelts and Tafts are too far back for anybody to remember, and he doesn't want to be seen attacking the Kennedys, so he confines his discussion to the Bushes and the Clintons, but I don't see where he says it all started with the Bushies.
God has decreed that American political dynasties decline sharply in suitability for office with each iteration. Call it the George H.W.-George W.-Jeb rule. Quit after the first iteration. Don’t trot out the second one. And, for the love of God, don’t trot out the third. Forgetting that rule harmed the Democratic Party in 2016 and blew up the Republican Party entirely. The Democratic Party is surprisingly cohesive these days, thanks to anti-Trump sentiment, so a Jeb-style destruction is unlikely. But never say never. If anyone could make it happen, Chelsea could.
He could have made the same point with the Kennedys -- JFK-RFK-EMK-etc. -- but clearly he didn't want to. It holds for the Adamses and Roosevelts and Tafts (and Chafees and Stevensons and Humphreys and Romneys and Gores and Cheneys and Udalls and Browns and Sununus and all the rest) as well.
Good article. The part about Chelsea saying she wrote Reagan when she was five years old telling him not to go to Bitburg was my favorite. Or maybe it was Chelsea tweeting an attack on Charlotte Rampling for a comment she made about the Oscars.
Guess they all forgot the Kennedys and Roosevelts. Not to mention all the smaller state and local ones.
