Summer came early for the lesbian community, who flooded Southern California to soak up some rays at an annual five-day festival in Palm Springs that is entirely dedicated to lesbian women, and cultural appreciation. The Club Skirts Dinah Shore Weekend has become known as one of the wildest weekends in the lesbian community, and this past weekend's debauched event - the 27th in the festival's history - looks to have been no different.

I am reminded of the SNL skit where some frat boys are making wishes on a genie lamp and they want to watch two hot lesbians getting it on. Unfortunately they leave out “hot” from the actual wish and get a couple of flannel shirt, comfortable shoe lesbians. Oops.

I remember, back in the early 80s, when Phil Donahue was the king of Talk TV (and was on Channel 69, WFMZ, Allentown, PA, just before “Mission: IMPOSSIBLE” played at 4PM. . . .)
The topic of the day, was “Lesbians”, and it was all Central Casting Lesbians: heavy, flannel shirts, etc. Not a “Lipstick Lesbian” to be found. . .
Phil was taking callers, and at the time, the broadcasts were live. . . .
Phil: “Yes caller??”
Caller: “Yes, Mister Donahue. I have a question. Are you gals lesbian because you want to be, or because you’re ugly and can’t get men. . .”
And then ABRUPTLY cut to commercial. . .

A lesbian using a strap on? Sort of takes away from the meaning of being a lesbian.
I have never heard anything indicating that she was one herself, or was supportive of that "lifestyle." She was married twice, and had a 20 year romance with Burt Reynolds. If the promoters of this festival did not have permission to use her name in conjunction with this event, hopefully her estate will take them to court.
Had to look that up. She wasn’t. Here’s why the event got it’s name;
I could almost believe that a former phb-ette could be there.
That’s something I’d rather never see.
