The rumour mill has been swirling in recent months that he's set to take over the renowned James Bond franchise. And now, it appears fans can expect Idris Elba, 44, in the starring 007 role after his Guerrilla director John Ridley, 51, let sip that he 'can't wait' to see him on the silver screen commanding the iconic role. Speaking to BBC Radio One at the premiere of their new Sky Atlantic series, the Oscar winning writer couldn't help but gush about the Luther star's talent.

I’ll skip a black Bond. Bond is Bond, and Bond ain’t black. I read the original novels and have all the films on Blu-ray, but I frankly think the Bond series has been done to death. IMO the series has gone downhill since Thunderball. I still haven’t watched the Blu-ray of the most recent one.
Nobody can beat Connery with the women.
Totally agree. One of those remakes that was better than the original.
I think they should remake Bond movies that follow the stories in the books, and are set in the 50s and 60s. Bond was a SPY who got into scrapes, not a superhero. Somehow along the way it became all about the gadgets.
I don’t see what the big deal is. Elba is a great actor and definitely has the presence to play Bond. When you look at other movies that have done reasonably well when they cast a black guy to play a white role (Enemy of the State, Wild Wild West - not that I even like Will Smith as an actor) - it’s all about the strength of the script and the marketing - two things that a Bond movie are almost guaranteed to have.
Assuming that the script isn’t garbage, I’d expect it to do at least as well as all of the other Bond movies they put out over the years. Most Bond fans I know aren’t aware that Ian Fleming has been dead for years and there are 30 books (and some sanctioned spin-offs) written by other writers.
Given Elba’s success I’m not so quick to write this off as PC nonsense.
It’s all about erasing Western Civilization from the world.
I agree!
Unfortunately given today’s tastes they probably wouldn’t make any money.
You’re a bad muthuh...
I enjoyed The Wire.
Don’t remember his character because it was too long ago but I am sure I thought he did a good job
At least Bond won’t be an LGBT Transgender Biological Woman. At least not yet.
Dalton was bad, but George Lazenby was utterly horrid!
Couldn’t act, wasn’t believeable as anything other than a clothes horse, which is what he was.
Tom Hardy would have been perfect
Blind gossip that was clearly about Bond

Some people guessed Tom Hardy for this one:
[4] is under 40, has a perfect accent and could pull off the part, but lacks a certain cool confidence and is just too damn short.
Tom Hiddleston is a bit too type cast as a bad guy (Loki in the Thor movies), although he does a really good job with his bad guy roles.
That was Timothy Dalton.
Brosnan’s later movies were pretty bad though, because the writing was garbage after Goldeneye.
9/11 happening right before Die Another Day was released forced the reboot to happen.
I think George Lazenby was unfairly punished though, a lot of that movie’s problem was the costume design and production (I mean why did they have his voice dubbed for over a half hour while he was undercover?).
His biggest problem of course was he wasn’t Sean Connery.
For #5 I think you are talking about Denzel. Maybe I am wrong. I always found him rather boring, not sexy & generally over hyped.
I’m probably in the minority with that opinion.
