Kelly Schmahl, 20, allegedly pretended to be ill from June 2016 through March 2017, Fox 19 reported.

“Our daughter is a caring, loving yet troubled young woman who is currently undergoing treatment for issues that precipitated this pretense and the results of it,” the statement said. “Like others in the community, we, too, believed our daughter was seriously ill with cancer, and we are all searching for answers as to why she would participate in this deception.

Pretty damned twisted thing to do.

Karma is a bitch, kid. Be careful what you pretend.

That’s some dopey parents.

I cannot imagine how anyone could have a kid in college and not know whether or not she is really undergoing chemotherapy. Never asked to talk to her doctor? Never went with her for any of her treatments? Never gave any thought to whether their medical insurance was covering any or all of her medical expenses?

Sorry. Not buying it.

"we are all searching for answers as to why she would participate in this deception."

Maybe it's the "thousands of dollars raised in her name."

I was thinking the same things. If my child was sick I would certainly make an effort to be there for them.

Re : medical expenses, she would have most likely been on her parents’ insurance. They would have seen the bills or the lack thereof.

She don’t look like that anymore, you seen her lately? Looks like she got beat with a cricket bat and it’s only just started to heal.
