While their husbands may be the ones in the Oval Office, first ladies have plenty of power of their own. In addition to playing hostess at one of the most famous residences in the world, America's first ladies have traditionally used their positions to shape policy, champion causes and help spark real change.

Two months into her husband's presidency, though, first lady Melania Trump is signaling her role will be much more subdued.

Though the first lady is viewed favorably by 52% of Americans — far higher than her husband's latest approval rating — Mrs. Trump has taken a hands-off approach in the Trump administration. Recent reports allege she's been "miserable" in her new role, which she made no public appearances for between Jan. 21 and Feb. 3.

"I expect her to be gracious when acting as first lady, but I would not be surprised if she limits herself to a minimal engagement with the role," Donald Trump biographer Michael D'Antonio told the Chicago Tribune....

The big thing is....she didn’t tell Donald she was going to do that. So pleased that she has her own mind....and it’s not about politics...it’s about people. That’s the tie that makes them a great couple.

I’ll never understand the “cause” thing. Does every woman have to have a “cause” other than being a good wife and mother.

Who cares? “First Lady” is a title, not a position - something only Republican spouses ever seem to remember.

For comparison, the wookie had a large staff of about 25 or so. Our new First Lady has a staff of ????????. Anyone know?

“Kennedy was quite ordinary in my book. And her voice drove me crazy.”

Agreed. Nothing against her, but she never struck me as exceptional in any way. The media loved her so they banged that drum.

Who cares what her “approval rating” is! She wasn’t elected to build the wall, cut government, reduce spending, stop illegal alien criminals, or protect the 2nd Amendment. Donald was.

She has spent the last 65 days being a mother to her son. She’ll probably spend the next 3600 days doing the same thing. Why should that be something to criticize?

She isnt going to spend 4 years at the WH..just my opinion

I doubt she moves to DC and I don't blame her at all if she doesn't.

Sorry, I don’t agree. Come June, Barron should be living with both parents, IMHO ... and not just now and then.
