Lawmaker burns traffic camera ticket, urges Tennesseans to ignore them

NASHVILLE — State Rep. Andy Holt is urging Tennesseans to ignore traffic camera tickets and emphasizing his point by burning a citation in a video that apparently has received more than 325,000 Facebook views.

"What do you do if you get one? Throw it in the trash. Personally, I prefer to burn mine," says Holt, R-Dresden, in a lengthy news release issued in conjunction with posting the video on his Facebook page Wednesday, which shows him using a cigarette lighter to set the ticket aflame.

Holt, a longtime critic of traffic camera tickets who repeatedly has called for banning them outright in Tennessee, was joined by state Sen. Paul Bailey, R-Sparta, this year in sponsoring a bill, HB2510, that requires all citations resulting from a traffic camera video to include this notice:

"Nonpayment of this (citation) cannot adversely affect your credit score or report, driver's license, and/or automobile insurance rates."

The bill passed unanimously in the Senate and by a 92-2 vote in the House.

Put the Tito’s bottle down. The only post I made was to correct your unsound logic. Well.... that, and to insult you for the stupidest post of the day....so far.

Have you people no sense of proportion? Comparing running a red light with murder? For reals?

It's stupid idiot dumbass shit-for-brains thinking like that causes our freedoms to be nickel-and-dimed away on a daily basis.

Get thee lost, sheeple. May the light of freedom never blind you and may your chains rest lightly upon you.

” And yes, they can make it stick.”

Not sure about other states, but the rep is correct. They can’t do anything in Tennessee if you ignore it

I got a parking ticket on my Jeep several years ago. It was for parking in a restricted area on a Saturday night in Raleigh, NC. My Jeep was parked 2 hours away in my driveway. Somebody apparently fat-fingered the license plate number when issuing the ticket. There was no recourse, other than the fact that the plate that they issued the ticket on, had not been delivered to me yet. The state of NC sent me a new tag in the mail (I guess my old one was up for replacement)..... so I contacted the state, and they wrote a letter that said, there is NO WAY this plate was in the possession of Mr. Klemper at the time that this parking ticket was issued. The city of Raleigh had to eat that ticket.

Don’t do that. You will be acknowledging the citation. Burn it!! Most state constitutions do not allow municipalities to issue fines but they do anyway. My last count was 32 over the last 4 years.

...the sworn officer who attested to the tickets personally had been dead for 6 months.

Probably still on the voting roll there, too.

That’s why i always send my attorney to court for $150. The camera ticket here in L.A. is $250. My attorney ALWAYS wins and i save money and time for these DOT assholes wasting my time with this nonsense.

Seriously, you’re equating a traffic ticket to a murder?

The article says that the companies running the cameras are assessing the fees after review; law enforcement is not previewing the pictures prior to issuing fines!

Dumb response. A video of a robbery would be entered as evidence in a trail. We are not talking about a trial here. Smarten up.
