Face it Trump has realized the GOP have no intention of repealing Obamacare. When Ocare finally collapses in a year or two the Dem and the GOP ie the uniparty will get together and pass single payer. That’s what the “big beautiful deal” is that Trump alluded to yesterday.
IMO the Republicans have become convinced and it may even be true that most Americans want national insurance so why not just give it to them. It won’t be called that of course. The politicians will give it a real hip name and both parties will sell it to their base. So get ready for single payer because that’s what’s coming.
I sure hope you’re wrong. The problem with the ACA in the first place is mandatory participation by everyone in some way or another.
It’s a good goal to want everyone covered but look at what the taxes look like in countries that have single payer health coverage. Over 50%. So while the goal is good on paper; in real life it will hurt more than it helps; at least in America. We also have a different attitude about things like this. We don’t like to be told we have to buy a product we may or may not want and we certainly don’t want to be told what brand and model.
Some of us might want a low end Kia while others might prefer a high end Cadillac. The ACA doesn’t really give people those kind of choices and it’s mandated anyway so it’s no good.
They should just give Trump the same bill they gave obama on repealing the ACA. Make it a phased out plan over 2 years and phase in a new OPTIONAL market driven plan so after 2 years anyone who doesn’t want it won’t have it and those who do; will have the level of coverage they think they need and put together a higher risk pool for those of us with pre-existing issues. It sucks but those who use the insurance more and get a lot more out of it will simply have to pay higher rates than those who are healthy and just want something as a back up.
They can even do this in a way that won’t detrimentally affect the next Presidential election or if done right; will help Trump get re-elected.
