Bannon Tells Trump: Keep a (bleep) List of Republicans Who Opposed You ('burn their boats!')

Bannon Tells Trump: ‘Keep a Sh*t List’ of Republicans Who Opposed You

Trumpcare is in trouble and if it fails, Steve Bannon has pledged to remember who defied the White House.

If TrumpCare dies, the White House won’t forget who killed it — and plans on keeping a “sh*t list” of Republicans who stood in their way.

According to multiple Trump administration officials speaking to The Daily Beast on the condition of anonymity to talk freely, the president is angry that his first big legislative push is crumbling before his eyes—and his chief strategist Stephen K. Bannon is advising him to take names and keep a hit list of Republicans who worked for Trumpcare’s defeat.

“[Bannon] has told the president to keep a sh*t list on this,” one official told The Daily Beast. “He wants a running tally of [the Republicans] who want to sink this…Not sure if I’d call it an ‘enemies list,’ per se, but I wouldn’t want to be on it.”

One aide described it as a proposed “sh*t list” for Republicans not sufficiently loyal. Courses of action stemming from any related tally is yet to be determined, but the idea and message is that “we’ll remember you.”

Two senior Trump administration officials with direct knowledge of the process told The Daily Beast that Bannon and Trump have taken a “you’re either with us or against us” approach at this point, and that Bannon wants the tally of “against” versus “with us” mounted in his so-called West Wing “war room.”

“Burn the boats,” Bannon (in his typical, pugnacious style) advised Trump, according to one official involved. Burning one’s boats is a reference to when military commanders in hostile territories order his or her troops to destroy their own ships, so that they have to win or die trying.

Sources also said that others including Mick Mulvaney, Trump's director of the Office of Management and Budget and co-founder of the House Freedom Caucus, endorsed the idea of the running list, and that Trump agreed with the idea.

Emails to the White House and Bannon seeking comment were not immediately returned.

Freedom Caucus members, of course, are no strangers to barely-veiled threats from Trumpworld, and have remained undeterred this week by earlier attempts. On Tuesday, when Trump made his high-profile visit to Capitol Hill to try to rally Republicans to get behind his and Ryan’s plan, Trump specifically called out Rep. Mark Meadows, chairman of the Freedom Caucus, several times. According to those in the room, the president made it clear that he expected Meadows’ vote and support when push comes to shove. (As of Friday late morning, Meadows is saying he’s not budging yet.)

“Mark, I’m coming after you,” Trump said, only half-jokingly, on Tuesday.

Freedom Caucus aides said they were similarly unperturbed on Friday. One simply responded to The Daily Beast’s question regarding potentially getting on Trump and Bannon’s “sh*t list” with one word: “Meh.”

“From day 1 in this fight, conservatives have been far more focused on keeping their promises and doing what’s best for their constituents versus any hypothetical political challenges,” another conservative congressional aide said. “That remains unchanged.”

Republican House members jumping ship on the AHCA, both in the hardline-right and so-called “moderate” camps, are hardly alone in their buyer’s remorse. On Thursday night, The New York Times reported that Trump himself has told four people close to him that he regrets going along with Speaker Ryan’s plan.

Bannon, for his part, is hardly pleased with the bill as it stands. According to Trump administration officials, Bannon himself hates the current AHCA—“he thinks it’s a piece of shit…and he told me as such,” one source described bluntly. “But, I mean, he's not going against [the president].”

If Trumpcare/Ryancare goes down in flames, a great share of the blame will inevitably be shoveled onto Speaker Ryan and House GOP leadership—a Republican leadership that just two short years ago Bannon was calling out as “all cunts.”

There we go with those unnamed, anonymous, made-up sources again.

Ryan is the one who is to blame for this one. He did not include the ones who were against what they saw when he showed it. They didn’t see “ryan’s bill” until a few days before he expected them to vote for ‘obama lite bill’. I guess he was going to take full credit for it when it was successful... and it’s a shame the divided republican party failed to back our President!! It amounts to too many who don’t care.. only for themselves.

President Trump at least needs to take them to the wood shed for not being united when the dems.. who are as crooked as the proverbial mile... tell their lies together... together! I think it’s good to have different opinions, but for the love of country.. don’t put a bill up that you don’t have the votes for.. and not even know you don’t have the votes!!!

I refuse to believe anonymous sources. We all should, just as a matter of principle. We've had WAY to much of this being done by the fake news media that it's driving the country into civil war.

Bannon might have said lots of things. BUT in order to believe it, they're going to cite REAL sources.

“I’m hoping next week he gets behind the Paul plan variation and runs with it. He’ll get broad support if he does”

You’re delirious...the Paul plan is totally predicated on a HUGE gamble that it would survive a challenge. There is NO real Paul plan...it’s a talking point.

its okay, Bannon gave the best advise as a counselor. Lay back, keep notes on who is loyal and signal that those RINO's who are not playing ball will be remembered for not doing so. (as they have done already)

Freedom Caucus will not be penalized for voting their consciences....I think everyone would rather see Ryan gone at this point

Who knows.

What is known is that the Daily Beast is a Leftist rag. Not exactly an objective news source.

But if they're going to run a story, they should either run the story with the names of their sources or don't publish. What they have reported is no more than unclaimed gossip.

No one believes them when their source is a guy in trench coat with his hat pulled down to disguise his face, smoking a fag under the nearest streetlamp.

“Freedom Caucus will not be penalized for voting their consciences”

Sorry....the Freedom Caucus owns this one....Trump made all his concessions to this group and all the way they pretended to be moving in his direction....then when they had 80% ..they asked for 95%....and killed the deal.

Nope ...you guys own this defeat LOCK, STOCK and BARREL!! And don’t think voters like my wife and me will forget it on election day!! We’ll be thinking about Bannon and “burning the boats”

Daily Beast. Reliable? If Trump burns the opposition all we will have are good little RINO Ryan yes men. Destroying the enemy has been Trump’s style yes but this route would destroy the people most fearlessly standing up for his VOTERS. Whether he knows it or not, surely he does know. Again, Daily Beast, take it with advisement. Earlier report on Breitbart is that the bill was written by insurance industry and Bannon was distancing himself, publicly promoting, privately talking about it being a bad bill. Does anyone know the true truth?

That is what I think. They aren’t neophytes as much as pro politicians might think. But Trump proved he was a team player, his team captain just stunk it up or is Ryan the coach? Who knows what anymore?

The bottom line, we want it now. I don’t trust that they will do parts 2 and 3 later. They would pass Ryan care, say they’ve fixed it and never touch it again.

This time WE must be appeased. I want Obamacare REPEALED, not tweaked.

Maybe Bannon should have listened more to conservatives in the House and Senate rather than letting a RINO carry the ball.

The republican version of Obamacare is still Obamacare. Passing crap to claim some phyrric victory shouldn't be acceptable to this administration.

Ryan has already shown he cannot be trusted.. but he was the one who had control over that bill.. it was his. And he was not sharing. I didn’t want him in as speaker after boehner left... but he’s in and he’s a spoiler. Trump needed this and ryan lost it for him. I’m not sure he knows how to recognize it when he makes a mistake this huge.
