Warriors of the Powhatan Confederation, led by Chief Oprechancanough, attacked the English settlements around the Jamestown area in Virginia. By the time the warriors withdrew, they had killed 347 men, women and children. This was about 1 in 4 settlers in the area.
There were three Powhatan wars, this is the second. Opechancanough is legendarily a who-knows-how-many-greats great grandfather of mine, due to having raped Mary Sizemore. Interesting history with Openchancanough, though he’s little known compared to his half-brother Powhatan, who was then Chief or in their language, Werowance.
Thanks.

If you want to look further into Opechancanough, do a web search on “Don Luis.”
My family history sounds very much like yours. Except for staying in the original area where they landed. My ancestors moved west, every other generation moved, by horse, wagon, on foot. Until they ended up inTexas in the early 1800’s . We have stayed here ever since.
The distinction between settler and immigrant is important. Our ancestors were settlers, moving to an uninhabited land and creating a homestead, community, and culture. Immigrants move into an existing culture. We are vexed. today, with immigrants who do not wish to assimilate but want to destroy the culture into which they are immigrating.
There will likely be relatives still there, descendants of the oldest son typically. That is, unless they all died out or later sold out and moved away. I’ve got a whole slew of distant cousins descending from the younger brothers who went west into the backcountry and over the mountains into what later became Tennessee, shortly after the Revolution. My fourth great was the oldest son so he inherited the land and my line remained in NC. Still here.
Yes, I am sure there are distant cousins all over the country, I was only talking about my direct line. I have cousins living in east Texas that I don’t know. My mother was the youngest of 8 children, she had nieces and nephews who were her age. Her mother was also the youngest of 8. Makes it hard to stay connected.

Recessional of the Sons of the American Revolution:
“Until we meet again, let us remember our obligations to our
forefathers who gave us our Constitution, the Bill of Rights,
an independent Supreme Court and a nation of free men.”
Dr. Benjamin Franklin, when asked if we had a republic or a monarchy, replied "A Republic, if you can keep it."
I don’t see many movies because they are full of trash and leftist propaganda. Is this one worth seeing, in your opinion?
Most definitely. Between disease and starvation, most people all over the world were constantly scrambling to stay on this side of the grave. Those who sought their fortune in the New World were willing to take a chance on improving their lives even though the odds were stacked against them.
:)
Here’s a very thorough and concise history of the Powhatan Wars, beginning with the first out of three, from the Encyclopedia Virginia:

And, here’s their length and detailed entry on Opechancanough:

Well said.
Yes, the Europeans were not blameless, but there’s killing and then there is the satanic torturing prior to death that many European settlers, including women and children, were subjected to.
Amen!
It's well documented that the "natives" were quite creative about killing people. They often turned it into a sport involving torture, mutilation, and prolonged suffering...
That's why I called out the Iroquois by name - cannibals that engaged in killing orgies.
There were other problem tribes to be sure, but the Iroquois were the poster children for ritual torture of victims.
