The agony of being TOO BEAUTIFUL to be faithful! As it's revealed attractive couples [tr]

Beauty is a gift that ought to come with a caveat: a warning sign stating that while being gorgeous might sound like fun, when it comes to relationships, oh boy, are you in for a rough time. I should know. You can call me immodest, vain even, for admitting so freely that in my youth I was good looking. But then, I believe that had I not been so beautiful, I might still be married to the man I once loved. The fatal flaw in our relationship was I blossomed to become so much better looking than he was. My poor ex couldn’t cope with living in my shadow and constantly felt jealous and insecure.

One day I used the self-checkout at the grocery store and forgot to pay. When I went back, they had already written off the twenty or so dollars in food, and I had to rescan everything to pay. But I slept well that night knowing I did the right thing.

GMTA. That song popped into my head as well.

Every time I think of the song, though, I always remember an incident from 30-odd years ago. I went over to visit my sister one day, and two of her friends were there, a couple who had just gotten married a day or so before. I shook the man’s hand, saying with great sincerity, “Congratulations! I’m sure you’ll be very happy for the rest of your life.” He was pleased at the congratulations, and my sister nearly died laughing, then couldn’t explain what was so funny.

I hope she like cats, because that what’s she going to be left with in her old age.

Uh. This crap makes me SO tired. Any time I’m tempted to
think I’m pretty; I get nekkid, stand in front of the
full-length mirror first thing in the morning - before I
bathe, brush my teeth or dress. Then I ask myself, “Self,
WHO today is going to give you ANYTHING?” No answer.

It keeps me humble and never expecting a free lunch.

I once went to get gas in my car and when I got home I found the $5 I had to pay for it was still in my pocket- I was not gleeful that I scammed $5 of gas,

You didn't scam it. It was an honest mistake.

If you had scammed it, you wouldn't have have the conscience to do the right thing and go back and pay for it.

Divorcing her first husband was the best thing that she could have done for him.

One another thread recently, I saw someone make the comment to the effect of, *If you see a beautiful girl who’s single, some where there’s a guy who was sick of her um.... nonsense. (fill in the blank with the appropriate expletive)*

Sadly, when looks fade, her inner self will be exposed....

And they will.

Age is NOBODY'S friend.

And after looking at pictures of celebrities who have aged, some of whom are gorgeous when younger, I've noticed that as a general rule, it seems that the more beautiful they are when younger, the worse they age.

When they are older, they look as much worse than average, then they were beautiful when younger.

And I've also noticed that teenage skinny looks TERRIBLE on women past their 50's.

Yikes. I'm having flashbacks. I hate to admit how many times I've dated and tried to marry "her". Not the author specifically, but a few like her.

In fact, I'm so utterly gullible that I finally had to quit trusting my judgment and discernment and eventually quit dating.

Which is a shame, too, as things are good in my world these days and I'd love to have someone to share it with.

However, as my bank account increases over time, my level of trust in date-able women decreases.

The risk seems too high. My want and gullibility could easily cost half or more of what I have and all of what's left of my heart.

It would be smarter to lease with the option to buy, but that's not quite how it works.

Where can I find a single, intelligent, wholesome, yet attractive, woman without guile? Do they still make that model? Did they ever?

I just don't know, so I'm playing it safe and giving it all up to God.

My take comes from my experience.....I had a lovely wife who was enticed away from me, after 23 years together.

I don’t think he meant that to YOU.

I think it was directed at the piece of work the article was about.

There are still some good women out there.

If you question your judgment, then ask friends or family for their opinion. They can see far more objectively than others can.

Take note of subtle things about a woman, like how she relates to her family and odd comments she makes about others. They can tell you volumes about someone.

The problem most people run into is that they are so desperate for love that they ignore the warning signs and end up in trouble. You are wise for having the wherewithal to not fall into that.

It’s Hard to Be Humble

Mac Davis

[Chorus]
Oh Lord it’s hard to be humble
When you’re perfect in every way.
I can’t wait
To look in the mirror.
Cause I get better looking each day.
To know me is to love me.
I must be a hell of a man.
Oh Lord It’s hard to be humble,
But I’m doing the best that I can.

I used to have a girlfriend,
but I guess she just couldn’t compete,
With all of these love-starved women,
Who keep cowering at my feet.
Oh I probably could find me another,
But I guess they’re all in awe of me.
Who cares?
I never get lonesome.
Cause I treasure my own company.

[Chorus]

I guess you could say I’m a loner.
A cowboy out lone, tough, and proud.
I could have lots of friends
If I wanted.
But then I wouldn’t stand out from the crowd.
Some folks say that I’m egotistical.
Hell I don’t even know what that means.
I guess it has something to do
With the way that I fill out my skin tight with jeans.

[Chorus]

I’m doing the best that I can.

You’re So Vain

Carly Simon

You walked into the party
Like you were walking on a yacht
Your hat strategically dipped below one eye
Your scarf, it was apricot
You had one eye on the mirror
And watched yourself gavotte
And all the girls dreamed that they’d be your partner
They’d be your partner, and

You’re so vain
You probably think this song is about you
You’re so vain,
I’ll bet you think this song is about you
Don’t you?
Don’t you?

Oh, you had me several years ago
When I was still naive
Well, you said that we made such a pretty pair
And that you would never leave
But you gave away the things you loved
And one of them was me
I had some dreams, they were clouds in my coffee
Clouds in my coffee, and

You’re so vain
You probably think this song is about you
You’re so vain, you’re so vain
I’ll bet you think this song is about you
Don’t you?
Don’t you?

Well I hear you went to Saratoga
And your horse, naturally, won
Then you flew your Learjet up to Nova Scotia
To see the total eclipse of the sun
Well, you’re where you should be all the time
And when you’re not, you’re with some underworld spy
Or the wife of a close friend,
Wife of a close friend, and

You’re so vain
You probably think this song is about you
You’re so vain, you’re so vain
I’ll bet you think this song is about you
Don’t you?
Don’t you?

Good advice. Thanks for it.

While wisdom is not something I can legally claim for my self, I do know that experience is a good teacher...eventually.

I'm not sure I've learned the right answers, but hopefully I'm asking better questions these days.

In truth, my natural self seems to be sorta like Forrest Gump with Tears for Algernon, which sucked in my youth but is kinda blissful the older I get, so no worries.

Growing up, I didn't have a lot of examples, good or bad, to study and model, just a lot of blank spaces and questions without answers, good or bad.

From what I've seen in others and myself, those blank spaces often don't know what fits best and the ego is the wrong place to seek answers, making the learning process quite a bit more challenging and damaging than it needs to be.

Plus, the world of these last few decades has made things even more confusing for everyone, even those who seem to be whole and complete.

Be careful where you step. Lots of damage everywhere one looks!

Now look here...I’ve seen it with my own eyes and heard it with my own ears over several decades and it’s worse than ever now with the advent of social media. It’s not a “tactic” as you allege.

Yes, it is a tactic and it is nothing new. Little liberals have been trying to pull it for as long as they have been whining around.

Sounds like you’ve had some experience with therapists. Otherwise, why would you you recommend it to somebody else?

Oh, another liberal tactic, how quaint.

This one is to try to insinuate that someone noticing your neurosis is actually a reflection on them.
