For almost two years now, a puppy and kitten have been sharing the journey of transitioning from mother and son.
Fluffy Kennedie, (39, finishing the fourth of her nine lives), began socially transitioning to become feline in the fall of 2015, after her son Boomer, (age 2 in dog years), started his hormone treatment to become canine. Kennedie’s medical transition began in 2016.
“Boomer’s bravery definitely inspired me to come out as trans-species,” said Kennedie, a resident of Detroit, Michigan. “To see how courageous he is, despite all of the cruelty the world shows him at times, makes me so proud. I thought, ‘If he can do this, so can I.’”
In June 2016, ABC News spoke with Fluffy Kennedie (who then went by the name Carolina) and son Barackie share the story about the trans-species teen and their message against families that fight like cats and dogs.
