Are We Raising Racists?
NY Times ^ | March 14, 2017 | Jennifer Harvey

Posted on 03/15/2017 8:15:05 AM PDT by C19fan

Last year at this time, my 7-year-old was running around singing the praises of George Washington. I was happy to see her so engaged with what she’d learned at school. But I was dismayed that the peace- and diversity-centered curriculum she gets at her public school had left her with such a one-dimensional view of history.

I struggled with how best to respond. Then one morning, she overheard the news on our kitchen radio about a politician charged with ethics violations. “What’s that about?” she asked.

The answer is yes. Raising racists is what the left does. They pass it down from one generation to the next.

I struggled with how best to respond... about a politician charged with ethics violations. “What’s that about?” she asked.

That's an easy one.

Tell your kid the basic fact about politicians.

"They're all crooks."

Depends on your definition of “racist”.

By the pre-2000 definition, “NO”. By the current definition, if your child is white you are raising a racist.

Before 2000 (or pick a year) lynching was the worst one of the worst things a racist would do. Now, a statement taken as a micro-aggression is worse than a lynching in the 50s.

I doubt anyone is raising a child who will lynch a black. But plenty will say things that are taken as a micro-aggression even when not meant that way. Nothing a parent of a white child can do about that.

Yep, nearly all blacks in America are raised to be racist.

So I teach my kids their history. They are of Franco-Spanish-Basque ancestry, that their ancestors, are Medieval warlords who fought off the Islamic Barbarian rapists, who fought against the murderous Catholic Church during the Inquisition era and that our first American ancestor came over 110 years before the American Revolution (true stories all).

Our French surname even has a Castle named after it in La Cluse-et Mijoux.

Oh and we’re Christians who live and die by the words of Christ - so yes we are damn RACISTS in every context of the word for the evil SJW snowflakes.

when the only doctors or teachers they see are white, or fewer kids in accelerated classes are black, for example — they won’t blame racism.

They shouldn't blame racism - there's no evidence that it's a significant factor in the mentioned disparities.

There is a broad gate and a narrow gate for you, Jennifer Harvey. Being liberal is part of the broad gate (and path) that makes you a racist. If you don’t want to be one, choose the narrow gate. But it’s small with a narrow road, only a few professors find it.

Totally believable story. 7 years olds are sooo into history. At that age I was really into George Washington but my favorites were Alexander Hamilton and James Madison because of the Federalist Papers. We kids couldn’t wait until recess to discuss the ramifications of what these meant to us.

An absolute brainwashed idiot:

In this provocative book Jennifer Harvey argues for a radical shift in how justice-committed white Christians think about race. She calls for moving away from the reconciliation paradigm that currently dominates interracial relations and embracing instead a reparations paradigm.here.

This moron teaches at Drake U. She should be shunned and run out on a rail.

Sorry, it teaches at Drew U.

I haven't tried but I'm sure I could find out that she's a self hating lesbian...

Right now, then, it’s even more urgent that parents who rely on messages like “we’re all equal” or “we’re all the same underneath our skin” in the hope of teaching our children the values of inclusion, equality and difference significantly up our game.

We're not all the same. The theory may be that we should all get equal treatment before the law but we certainly are not equal in talents, gifts, intellects, opportunities etc. It's life get over it.

Exactly.

“Then one morning, she overheard the news on our kitchen radio about a politician charged with ethics violations. “What’s that about?” she asked.”

Asked no 7 year-old, ever.

By the social pop definition of racist, if your child has pale skin, they are racist.

So I wouldn’t be able to have my own genetic children. Only darker brown people aren’t ever racist, under that definition.

We are, in reality, raising our white children to feel like that African in Dr Doolittle who wants so badly to be white.

White privileged professor worried that parents are not raising their kids to be Social Justice Warriors.

When we lose the ability to see greatness in a man like George Washington? We have NO HOPE of ever knowing greatness again.

Good grief.. what a depressing story. I agree with the person who said this is child abuse.
