Admiral, seven others charged with corruption in new ‘Fat Leonard’ indictment

During a port visit by the Blue Ridge to Manila in May 2008, for example, five of the Navy officers attended a “raging multi-day party, with a rotating carousel of prostitutes,” at the Shangri-La Hotel, according to the indictment. The group allegedly drank the hotel’s entire supply of Dom Perignon champagne and rang up expenses exceeding $50,000, which Francis covered in full.

On another port visit by the Blue Ridge to Manila in February 2007, Francis allegedly hosted another sex party for officers in the MacArthur Suite of the Manila hotel. During the party, “historical memorabilia related to General Douglas MacArthur were used by the participants in sexual acts,” according to the indictment.

How can anyone in a responsible position sit in a room and watch this? It is staggering to think that a grown man would be in a situation like this.

In my job, I was not even allowed to have a vendor buy me lunch.

I had two weeks training on the Blue Ridge when she was in port in San Diego in the 70’s, and as God is my witness, we didn’t have ANYTHING like this!

In exchange, according to federal prosecutors, the officials provided Francis with classified or inside information that enabled his firm, Glenn Defense Marine Asia, to gouge the Navy out of tens of millions of dollars.

It was investigated. Eventually. Most seems to have taken place during the Obama administration, along with most of the investigation.

Not good, the WaPo comments are trying to smear Trump with it! I should not be surprised... but they are delusional.

Stuff like this is not new.

In Vietnam an officer had a Christmas party for his men, which consisted of a BBQ & all the beer they could drink at a beach.

Afterwards, loaded in a deuce-&-a-half & trucked off to a house of pleasure, which the officer paid the full tab.

A breakdown in discipline among the brass lead to huge corruption.

Our vendors sent us Christmas gifts and promotional items. We had to take them to the lunch room and leave them on the table as giveaways.

Keeping so much as a pen was grounds for firing.

I wonder if they would have got in trouble if instead of female prostitutes they used gay men?

Probably get medals for THAT!

So the military is forced to allow gays, which are the most promiscuous of all “leanings” in, and that is good. Now they have to let guys who want to be girls, and girls that want to be guys, and even pay for their dictorectomies and phallus build surgery, but CAN’T have men with HOOKERS!

Oh the horror, the horror! (quoting Colonel Kurtz).

It seems though that the Navy does tend to look the other way at times because some female sailors get pregnant at sea and have to be transferred ashore.

NO. I worked on this in the past, while stationed in Singapore. This has been going on for a while, during the entire Bush admin. This is still the tip of the iceberg. Plenty more are going down.

An officer paying for prostitutes for himself and his men is immoral, but not comparable to this. Navy contractor Leonard Francis (”Fat Leonard”) bribed US Navy personnel in exchange for over-billing the Navy.

Better to get it done early in the Trump administration. Thanks for your service.

I guess it will open up a lot command positions...

I had to read and sign a copy of AFR 30-30 every six months. The penalties for breaking the rules kept me honest.
