Maybe, but a lot of the original Star Wars stuff was WW2-inspired — from Spitfire-esque X-wings, P-38-like Y-wings and very Bf109-inspired Ties to Stormtroopers, SSith, and the, let’s say, homogeneity of the Imperial presence generally (in a galaxy filled with a vast array of species).
That said, this particular ‘rule’ is very lib-virtue-signaling and counter-productive. Nobody is going to think that because the class jock showed up in white plastic (or black Darth style) that they’re about to invade Poland. A more practical rule might be ‘no helmets — we are looking forward to seeing you again after all these years.’
