Anxious Couple Spends Thousands, Blankets South Bay in Yellow Signs in Hopes of Finding Missing Pup
NBC Bay Area ^ | 2/27 | Brendan Weber and Scott McGrew

"Our lives have been turned upside down and we're not sure what's next," one of the dog's owners said

A frantic couple in the South Bay has put their wedding on hold to blanket neighborhoods with yellow signs and pour thousands of dollars into the search for their beloved dog, who went missing on Feb. 13.

Trendee King and James Galley, who recently moved to the Bay Area from Southern California, dropped off their black and tan Brussels Griffon pooch named Theo at a national dog sitting service located near Blossom Hill Road and Almaden Expressway. The next thing they knew, he managed to slip out of a door and escape.

"Our lives have been turned upside down and we're not sure what's next," Galley said in an email.

King, who was in the midst of purchasing her wedding gown when Theo went missing, and Galley put a halt to their wedding preparation in order to search for their missing pup.

The worrisome owners have poured dollar after dollar into covering the South Bay with signs, and they even said they used six Bloodhounds in an attempt to track down the 12-pound Brussels Griffon with a snaggletooth. They are also offering a $3,500 reward.

"Theo is family and we're sinking our wedding savings into finding our beloved pup," Galley wrote.

Aside from the signs, the couple has littered social media with pleas asking for any information about Theo's location. King, who has more than 27,000 followers on her Instagram account, has plastered her profile with photos of the dog. Even an Instagram account with more than six million followers has joined in the search effort by sharing a photo of the yellow sign.

"People are supporting us because they know dogs are our best friends, our better halves, our kids," Galley wrote. "Sometimes they fill that void in your life, sometimes they bring two people closer together, and they always make your life better. It was clear that Theo brought my fiancée and I closer together."

Anyone with information about Theo's whereabouts is asked to text or call 310-663-2652.

It greatly saddens me when people ascribe human characteristics and attributes to a pet.

Frankly, you’re not his friend, you are simply the guy that gives him shelter and unlimited food.

Losing a pet is not like losing a child, snowflake.

They put their wedding plans ‘on hold’ to look for a lost dog? Whichever fiance who has made this decision, that person is either not ready to get married, or doesn’t really want to in the first place.

What if you never find the ‘lost’ dog? Is the other person supposed to put their emotional life on hold too? I’ll bet you anything, some weddings were canceled after The Election, because one of the fiances was just too emotionally frazzled to go forward with their lives.

Off Topic: The dog in question looks like a clingy, yappy, whiney and annoying little purse dog. Yes! I could be totally wrong.

It saddens you when people, in this horrible world, can find something to love and have it returned?

You seem like an empty soul and I pity you.

Oh, and one of my dogs saved my life by alerting my husband that I had stopped breathing so he wasn’t ‘simply some ‘thing’ I gave shelter and food to.

Which celebrity does Theo resemble? Ernest Borgnine?

No. It’s a pet. You can buy another one for $100 and these people are wasting their wedding money on a reward and bloodhound rental.

Humans have far more value than animals. I said I felt bad that they lost it, but it’s an animal, not a human.

I would pull out all the stops, too, if it were my cat. There are too many bad scenarios which would haunt me until I found her. It would be terrible to start their marriage under such a terrible cloud.

Intentionally provocative remark, huh.. I would offer five figures to get my beloved pooch back. No amount of money could replace her and no one can give her as loving a home as I (we) can, mostly me. LOL

I mean, what other dog gets CARRIED to her night bed EVERY night, then tucked in the way she likes it and patted 'good night'.. EVERY SINGLE NIGHT without fail?

Anxious Couple Spends Thousands, Blankets South Bay in Yellow Signs in Hopes of Finding Missing Pup

There is always hope. Trust me.

About a year ago my son's family lost a member of the family from North San Jose when she snuck out under the Garage door not properly closed.
After posting signs all over the neighborhood, calling all the surrounding animal shelters, including the County's... and after three weeks and giving up hope...

She was "found" ---- across the street.

Happily conning an indulgent family who allowed her on the beds and furniture; fed her hamburgers and hot dogs and other people food; generally destroyed years of training, and the final insult : was taken for walk along her true home's sidewalk with not a hint of recognition.

She returned home almost two pounds heavier, not a big dog.

So yeah.
There's always hope.

The bonding goes both ways, and is highly variable too. Pets generally adapt to stress better or more readily than humans do though.

I feel bad for this couple, but hey, we all make our own paths. Interesting what makes "news," in this case the peeps are willing to part with significant sums of money and are putting a wedding on hold. I suspect there are others, similarly situated except for the money and wedding, with as much hurt over a similar loss.

The biggest unseen threat to homeless cats (other than cars) is COYOTES! I would lose sleep wondering if my cat or dog were okay.
