A brief glance makes me think that the storylines in "Lion" might be a little like "Slumdog Millionaire" and "La La Land" a little like "Notebook". Wondering if either or both are worth seeing.
Whaddyathink?
I didnt watch, how many Oscar nominations did the chickified reboot of Ghostbusters nab?
Coincidently they won best movie and all the acting Oscars. Many you got that movie right. Hollywood loved the fact they made it all woman with one guy as a secretary. /sarc
If you can figure out the Kodi thing you could watch them for free
It’s sexist for a chick flick to have to do all the sweeping.
La La Land relies on autotune because the main cast members cannot sing, so if that turns you off, I’d skip it.
Personally, I can’t fathom why they would use autotune in a musical instead of just casting actors that can sing, because there are plenty of them out there.
Best unheeded advice you can give, but the sheep will continue to pay Hollywood to insult them.
They are not worth paying to see. Defund. If they come on a television near you at no additional cost, watch away.
I would never contribute one cent towards that crowd. It would be akin to handing money to someone who spat on me.
I could tell you that you can easily find a copy online already, but that would be wrong.
Your comment: I would never contribute one cent towards that crowd. It would be akin to handing money to someone who spat on me.
Me: I feel the EXACT same way, not one cent! And turns out I’m really not missing anything :)
Did you see Hacksaw Ridge?
*************
It’s in RedBox right now and is easily worth $1.50 .. watched it last night ... it is necessarily gory but doesn’t skimp on the backstory.. good film but not quite oscar material.
No, but it sounds like a conflicted Mel Gibson movie who can’t figure out if war is bad or good.
I liked La La Land. And I think it shines a light on Hollywood people. And the picture is not too pretty. The reality is that people who go off to LA to become a star, are not like the rest of us. They trade their family and marriage for fame. Its really why the people there are all so screwed up. La La Land does a good job letting you understand the choices people make. And what they give up to be famous.
The movie is entertaining. My wife and child thought it was too long. I didn’t. The singing and dancing have been brought down to the level of the stars ability. These people are not Fred Astaire, nor are they Judy Garland. But the songs are good. And the movie is very stylish, sometimes in very clever ways. The Oscars La La Land won for their production quality, like Best Cinematography were well deserved.
Watched La La Land on 123movies a few nights ago. Decent music, modest dancing, hackneyed plot. In short, practically perfect Hollywood fodder.
Lion wasn’t anything at all like Slumdog Millionaire. It had a very good first half then dragged on too long before it came to a decent ending. I walked away from La La Land because I thought it was boring and the musical numbers weren’t very good. My wife, who is a big fan of musicals, also thought it was boring. Even though it got all of the hype this year it’s a movie that will soon be forgotten.
My take differs: Mel Gibson movie that acknowledges that good people can do good things even during the horrors of war.
You may be SAG, but I've seen "Team America", and I've seen far too many Hollywood actors. Most of the people at the Oscars were members of the Film Actors Guild.
La La Land was a lot of fun.
Lion for sheer HEART yes.
Haven’t see La La Land, but everyone I know who has says don’t bother.
I liked it better when it was called, "Singing In the Rain."
I haven’t seen either one, but I did see “The Lego Batman Movie” this weekend. It was hilarious. I haven’t laughed so hard in a long time.
