World's first metallic hydrogen sample disappears
India today ^ | 27 Feb 2017

Last month physicists from Harvard University in the US had claimed to have successfully turned hydrogen into a metal - something researchers had been struggling to achieve for more than 80 years... However, the team has now announced that the sample has disappeared. "Were preparing a new experiment to see if we can reproduce the pressures we achieved the first time, and reproduce our metallic hydrogen," said Silvera, who has spent more than 45 years working on metallic hydrogen.

Maybe Hydrogen didn’t like this Alchemy being done on it, and just reverted...

IIRC, metallic hydrogen is primarily found inside the gas giants like Jupiter.

Lotsa luck reproducing THAT kind of pressure in a terrestrial laboratory.

They never had it in the first place.

I think it rode back to where it belonged on a Chesterfield sofa languishing in an eddy in the space time continuum.

The hydrogen molecule is very small. It can slip through the smallest of openings. There is no reason to think it didn’t turn to a gas by what is known as sublimation, and that the gas then escaped.

Even the tiniest leak could explain the disappearance.

They never had it in the first place.

My immediate reaction as well. But hoping I'm wrong. It's always fun to see some remarkable discovery or invention pop up unexpectedly.
