Underground network readies homes to hide undocumented immigrants

A hammer pounds away in the living room of a middle class home. A sanding machine smoothes the grain of the wood floor in the dining room.

But this home Pastor Ada Valiente is showing off in Los Angeles, with its refurbished floors, is no ordinary home. "It would be three families we host here," Valiente says. By "host," she means provide refuge to people who may be sought by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, known as ICE. The families staying here would be undocumented immigrants, fearing an ICE raid and possible deportation. The purchase of this home is part of a network formed by Los Angeles religious leaders across faiths in the wake of Donald Trump's election. The intent is to shelter hundreds, possibly thousands of undocumented people in safe houses across Southern California.

The goal is to offer another sanctuary beyond religious buildings or schools, ones that require federal authorities to obtain warrants before entering the homes. "That's what we need to do as a community to keep families together," Valiente says. At another Los Angeles neighborhood miles away, a Jewish man shows off a sparsely decorated spare bedroom in his home. White sheets on the bed and the clean, adjacent full bathroom bear all the markers of an impending visit. The man, who asked not to be identified, pictures an undocumented woman and her children who may find refuge in his home someday.

The Underground Railroad was protecting innocent people who did nothing wrong. Crossing into a country where you know damn well you don’t belong is something wrong. Take your lumps. If I were found living in England with no visa I’d be ok with being thrown out.

And that Supreme Court ruling used WHICH part of the constitution? Where was it written that we have to pay to educate kids of other countries?

Hoover, 37, wasn't an active member during the Sanctuary Movement of the 1980s

CNN, you morons, he was born in 1980. But thanks for doing this article so ICE can zero in on who to arrest.

Nice house. Way better than mine ever was. But move in 3 families and lets see how long it'll remain nice. Any bets on it being a pig sty within a week to 10 days. To be sure the neighbors won't be too happy with it messing with their property values. Any bets on how long it'll take for the neighbors to report them to ICE?

According to Sheriff Clarke that is illegal. He read the statute at CPAC.

Of course the Underground Railroad was different from what these people are attempting—my point was that they think they’re doing exactly the same thing. It makes them feel better—a kind of virtue signaling. In the much larger scheme of things the Underground Railroad only was able to nibble around the edges of getting freedom for the slaves. Thousands were freed by its efforts, but millions were freed by the war.

I believe (but could be wrong) that the Supreme Court’s ruling is based on the “Equal Protection” clause located in the 14th amendment. I believe (but again could be quite wrong) that its authors deliberately chose to use ‘persons’ rather than ‘citizens’ because they knew the southern states did not want to recognize blacks as citizens even though the same amendment said they were because they were born here (and thus we get ‘anchor babies’). On the other hand, the Equal Protection clause has also forced states to follow the Bill of Rights, including, at last the 2nd Amendment.

Good luck with that Ada- hopefully your family doesn’t suffer because of your idiotic ‘compassion’ for the enemies of God

“Nine Asylum Seekers Charged With Gang-Raping German School Teacher”

“Sweden: Another day, another rape video. Girl beaten and knocked out”

In sweden now that migrants are there 1 in 4 women will now be raped=-

Germany is experiencing a terrible increase in rapes and violent assaults as a result of ‘refugees’ pouring into the country- It’s gotten so bad the merkel, the woman who welcomed them in with open arms, is starting to deport them

There are approx. 47,000 homeless in LA-—and this idiot feels sorry for illegals.

Yes, ok, but then that needs to be changed. We cannot promis tax payer funding for services for the people of the entire world.

I am all for taking in refugees who have nowhere to go, who demonstrate full willingness to become American citizens and live in our culture(s). My grandparents had no passport. They were displaced persons. No state wanted them. Their country attempted to murder them. And when they came here, their Saturday nights were spent playing English Scrabble with other immigrant couples, English-German dictionary on the table. They worked their butts off to get their heavily accented English.

But we need to make some changes in order to not commit auto-immigrant-asphyxiation. Our policy now, give taxpayer services to anyone who can crawl in, is suicide.

Many argue that the ‘original intent’ of the 14th Amendment was (among many other things—the 14th does and says a lot) to protect the newly freed former slaves and that things like birthright citizenship for anchor babies would have never crossed its authors’ minds. But to change it would likely be politically impossible. The anchor babies are ours for keeps. On the other hand, I don’t think we owe their parents a place here, unless they immigrated here legally.

My grandfather immigrated here from Denmark in 1899—I have copies of this immigration documents and his application for citizenship. He, of course learned English. My dad and uncles might have learned a half-dozen words of Danish. Theirs was an American household. Contrast this with some who are now being deported who have lived here for many years but have to tell their sad stories to the press through an interpreter.

People need to realize that hiding a person who has committed a crime .. is in itself .. a CRIME.

It’s called Aiding and Abetting (Felony) - and people need to understand that it’s not a good thing to be charged with, because if you hide a person who has committed MURDER; you are opening yourself up to be charged as an accomplice.

These people who are going to hide these immigrants have no idea what they are obligating themselves to. They may think they’re just being kind .. but they’re really putting their own lives and the lives of their families in jeopardy.

Please, please, tell everyone you know - DON’T DO IT ..!!!!

What is funny, is that the article states the name of the guy building the tunnel and where it is!
