A hammer pounds away in the living room of a middle class home. A sanding machine smoothes the grain of the wood floor in the dining room.
But this home Pastor Ada Valiente is showing off in Los Angeles, with its refurbished floors, is no ordinary home. "It would be three families we host here," Valiente says. By "host," she means provide refuge to people who may be sought by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, known as ICE. The families staying here would be undocumented immigrants, fearing an ICE raid and possible deportation. The purchase of this home is part of a network formed by Los Angeles religious leaders across faiths in the wake of Donald Trump's election. The intent is to shelter hundreds, possibly thousands of undocumented people in safe houses across Southern California.
The goal is to offer another sanctuary beyond religious buildings or schools, ones that require federal authorities to obtain warrants before entering the homes. "That's what we need to do as a community to keep families together," Valiente says. At another Los Angeles neighborhood miles away, a Jewish man shows off a sparsely decorated spare bedroom in his home. White sheets on the bed and the clean, adjacent full bathroom bear all the markers of an impending visit. The man, who asked not to be identified, pictures an undocumented woman and her children who may find refuge in his home someday.

I’m sure it’s all being done to code and with proper permits and inspections.
I dont believe we should be forced to educate children of illegal aliens.
But back to the “secret rooms”. I know these people are trying to emulate the Underground Railroad. It will make them feel better. If they hide “hundreds or even thousands”, so what? There are millions out there for the deporting and they all can’t hide in secret rooms.
And they broadcast it openly.
Illegal multi-family homes just waiting for a tragedy to happen. Hope they have their insurance paid up.
If anybody else did this they would be thrown in jail or sued into oblivion.
Fools.
Let them out to do the yardwork, laundry, etc and then hide them back away.
Those Open Border people are so generous...
I guess Elian Gonzales should have sought refuge in a church. Err, wait...they turned on him too.
We need to go to the sponsor system. If someone feels a family is worthy of staying then they could be sponsored. that means financial sponsoring along with housing.
These people and their stupid self serving freedom fighter fantasies are getting way out of hand. Allowing delusional people their bizarre fantasies won’t put off the day of reckoning that is coming. It only makes it worse.
They know, but they feel that they have God on their side.
I can understand their convictions, even though they are on the wrong side of the law.
As stated before, eventually, “this will not end well.”
If they actually are playing "Underground Railroad II", then where are they "moving" them to? Canada? Sounds like a win-win situation for the US there as well.
Everyone involved should be charged with harboring illegal aliens, which is a federal offense.
Glad she’s advertising her criminal set up for ICE to bust.
Any person who
knowing that a person is an alien, conceals, harbors, or shields from detection, or attempts to conceal, harbor, or shield from detection, such alien in any place, including any building or any means of transportation shall be fined under title 18, imprisoned not more than 10 years, or both.
The desire to engage in virtue signaling always outweighs any need for secrecy.
This one kind of jumped out to me and made me go hmmm.
At another Los Angeles neighborhood miles away, a Jewish man shows off a sparsely decorated spare bedroom in his home. .... The man, who asked not to be identified, pictures an “undocumented woman and her children” who may find refuge in his home someday.
And the attempt to equate hiding fugitive slaves with hiding illegal aliens by labeling it "sanctuary" is the ultimate fraud in "virtue signaling"
“The man, who asked not to be identified, pictures an undocumented woman and her children who may find refuge in his home someday.”
Yeah, but it’ll probably be “an undocumented woman and her children,” along with her “undocumented gang-banger boyfriend.”
Wonder what the neighbors in this "middle class" neighborhood think of this?
Property values? We don need no stinkin property values.
A person (including a group of persons, business, organization or local government) commits a federal felony when he:
assists an alien whom he should reasonably know is illegally in the U.S. or who lacks employment authorization, by transporting, sheltering, or assisting him to obtain employment,
encourages that alien to remain in the U.S., by referring him to an employer, by acting as employer or agent for an employer in any way, or knowingly assists illegal aliens due to personal convictions.
Penalties upon conviction include criminal fines, imprisonment, and forfeiture of vehicles and real property used to commit the crime.
Anyone employing or contracting with an illegal alien without verifying his work authorization status is guilty of a misdemeanor.
Aliens and employers violating immigration laws are subject to arrest, detention, and seizure of their vehicles or property.
In addition, individuals or entities who engage in racketeering enterprises that commit (or conspire to commit) immigration-related felonies are subject to private civil suits for treble damages and injunctive relief.

“But this home Pastor Ada Valiente is showing off in Los Angeles”
in that case, it shouldn’t be too hard for ICE agents to find ...
Where did Pastor Ada Valiente get the money to buy the house and pay for the improvements?.
