Looks like a purebred Malamute to me. They can look really wolf-like.

Every Malamute photo I’ve seen shows their tail curling UP.

will be held at the county animal shelter for 5-7 days to be claimed by its owners before, being placed for adoption.
I have no trust in county animal control shelters, I suspect this poor dog will be put down before the 5 day minimum............

I would guess it is a wolf-dog mix.

Will he fetch a frisbee or play with a squeak toy?
Pets would do that.

Easy way to tell. If it wags its tail, it’s a dog. If it goes for your throat, it’s a wolf.

Or coyote-dog coloring would be closer.

I drove to town yesterday. Coming home I noticed a pickup with “animal control” on the door. The driver had a dog sitting right beside him in the cab.
At first I wondered if that was the only way they had to transport one but then noticed a low cage in the bed. Still wondering if the dog was the driver’s pet or one he had picked up.

Animal control officers in Maryland tracked down and captured
a loose dog many residents believed to be a wolf.

The last time I saw one of those, it was getting on an ark with another one that looked just like it.

If it wags its tail, its a dog. If it goes for your throat, its a wolf. Reminds me of what Churchill said about the Germans.
