Was anyone making albums in the 80s outside of Swingout Sister and Bascia? I didn’t notice.

Romeo Void, yes.

I saw Bow Wow Wow. GREAT band, great albums.. She could really sing and dance when younger. Sexy as heck!

Also like The Minutemen (lead vocal, no.. Instruments, GREAT!), X, Missing Persons, Split Enz, Toy Dolls, T.S.O.L., Circle Jerks (tightest band EVER), Suburban Lawns, etc..

One of the most bizarre bands ever? SACCHARINE TRUST!

XTC underrated?

Bow Wow Wow’s guitarist Matthew Ashman has only in the past few years gotten his due.

He died from diabetes in 1995.

I only knew XTC for their 1979 song Making Plans For Nigel rather than for any of their later stuff.

I was going to post a negative comment until I saw yours. Have not heard of any of these bands, except one, and while that is not necessarily bad, I will take issue with your assessment of Romeo Void. They had one beautiful tune, the “Girl in Trouble” mentioned in the article. The video is incoherent and sucks, but the music is really well done with an incomparable, jazzy sax solo in the middle of the tune and ending it. Listen here and change your mind if you never heard it: http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=A+Girl+in+Trouble.%22&view=detail&mid=5769A3E8AFB3BF39A45F5769A3E8AFB3BF39A45F&FORM=VIRE

Now you’re talking about something I do remember well.
I loved that light jazzy song “Breakout” by ‘Swing Out Sister’. So pleasant to listen to, to think about.
This was back when the African model Sade had quite a few hits, just before Whitney Houston took that genre over.

I hear that! How about some 1950’s Frank Sinatra/The Capital Years?

Isn’t it great that we are making plans for Nigel, and the Mayor of Simpleton is no longer in the White House?

Do I get credit for knowing about Nena and her 99 Luftballoons? That song was everywhere for years.
It was a hit in it’s original German.
The English translation lost something.

And I’m only gonna pierce my left ear
And I’ve been working on this mustache all summer long
And my favorite band will always be Tears For Fears
And I’m gonna wear a pink tux to the prom

The sax player in RV was a good friend of mine, Ben Bosse, whom I played with for a lot of years pre-RV. One night they were coming out of a concert in Boston, I believe and somebody kicked a tin can sitting on the ground and it apparently was full of some kind of acid. It splashed on another band member’s face and they were seriously burned and it trashed the rest of their tour and probably led to the demise of the band.

Always hated their music, btw.
