Radioactive boars are roaming Czech mountains after eating mushrooms contaminated [tr]

Wild boar is a popular locally delicacy in the Czech Republic but fans of the meat have an unusual problem on their hands this winter - the boars are radioactive.

The boars became contaminated by one of their most popular food sources - false truffles.

A cold and snowy winter is forcing them to feed on false truffles, an underground mushroom common in the Sumava mountain region between the Czech Republic, Austria, and Germany - where wild boars roam free.

Does the radioactivity kill the worms and other bacteria that may be present in the slaughtered animal?

Fungus are devious little bastards. The mycillium spreads out in the soil, collects the radioactive particles in the soil, puts it all in a mushroom and allows animals to carry it away. They can conentrate radioactivity by 10000x, and are even proposed for remediating radioactive waste.

Reindeer in Norway and Finland are radioactive. Lichens and shrooms growing in soil contaminated by Chernobyl are the cause.
