President Barack Obamas concessions to Cuba opened the way for U.S. airlines to do business with the communist dictatorship. After announcing frequent flights to the island over a year ago, however, many major airlines have found the demand they expected from U.S. tourists simply is not there.

In his book “Eat the Rich”, P.J. O’Rourke had a great chapter on his trip to Cuba.
Quell suprise.
Such a shame. Prior to Castro, Havana was quite the night spot, lots of glamour and fun.
Cuba is under true communism.
Cuba was much more fun in 1950s. You know—that primitive time that evil conservatives are always trying to drag us back to.

Decades ago, their lakes were stocked with Florida large mouth bass, they're considered an invasive species now and are huge.
Just waiting for a tour operator to bring some bass boats in country.
I luv the boo hoo girl
Most of the best pre-Embargo American cars were expropriated by the regime in the 80s or 90s and sold in Europe for hard currency.
The cigars can still be great (if they’re real...plenty of fakes out there, even in Cuba) but they have to be either smoked immediately or aged for a few years. The rum is definitely a shadow of its former self.
Another case where the Dominican Republic is better.
CUBA..... aka ....The Land of Broken Dreams.
Haiti is more modern.
My wife is a professional photographer and takes an annual trip somewhere to refresh the inventory. Last year she went to Cuba with a small group of photographers under some sort of Cuban “cultural exchange” program. They stayed in some native Cuban homes and cheap hotels.
After an extensive debrief, I got a feel for the Cuban society. Number One: There is plenty of food if rice and beans float your boat. Upshot— Cubans fart a lot. Number Two: There are shortages of some goods. Mainly, toilet paper. If Trump ever plans to soften our relationship with the island, my suggestion is he ship some containers of willy roll to Havana. Charmin diplomacy. Number Three: Young Cubans idolize Che. The girls refer to him as “mango” meaning “hot”, “sexy”. The photos of him lying dead somewhere in South American make him look like a dead groundhog. Number Four: They really like the Rolling Stones, or, “Los Rollings” in the vernacular. Number Five: They make really good cheap cigarettes. She brought back a bunch of packs of Upmann’s. I’d willingly trade a twelve pack of Cottonelle for a dozen cartons of Upmanns.
Six: Social Justice Warriors would probably not take to the Cuban caste system. The bottom line is that the darkest black negroids sit at the bottom of the socio-economic ladder. Lighter skin showing mixed breeding can get decent jobs. At the top sit those with mostly European lineage.
And finally, yes the old US cars are generally in poor shape. But they made fine fodder for photographs.
A family member of mine, a Canadian, has visited Cuba at least 4-5 times spaced out over several years. There are direct flights to Cuba from several major cities in Canada. The last trip, about a year ago, was probably her last. She came down with some malady while there, not attributable to anything specific that she could recall, but left her sick for several days and not feeling well for some time after her return home. This sort of thing can happen while traveling, not just to Cuba; but, after this last experience in Cuba has her looking for other warm weather winter getaway destinations.
the local city dump is much closer and cheaper to visit, for a similar experience.
because of greedy capitalists the wont give more of course!

lol
I had to laugh at the people speculating of a boom in collectible cars coming on the market. Any resemblance to the actual make and model is purely accidental, they’re completely rigged with whatever expedient part or entire drivetrain they could lay their hands on, they’re as far from original as it could possibly get and painted with a brush. They run and they’re drivable, sort of. The climate is not kind as far as rust, either. Their only value is in what they are, a relic of an era in Cuba.
um... i might consider a fishing trip with her as the guide :P
Bermuda is nice...
