No David Sanborn?
And for all the Benny Hill fans, I’ll mention Boots Randolph, too.

I like the way you think. I’d put Lester Young higher.

Maybe nobody's favorite but mine, but mine nonetheless -
*Pedal UP!*
(And Paul Desmond #2.)

As a saxophonist myself, I agree with most of these except Clarence Clemmons.
Sorry, Bruce supporters/writers of this article...King Curtis he ain't. Very overrated.
Phil Woods was probably one of the greatest alto sax players of all time and should be on this list.
Paul Desmond should be on this list, as well as Ernie Watts.
Thankfully, Kenny G is not on the list...

For my personal preference, I could put Lester Young right below John Coltrane and move all the rest down a notch!

And I know I have Gerry Mulligan much higher than anyone else, but...man, his sound just resonates with me!

Just what I was thinking.

(And Paul Desmond #2.) Yes. And he was a great writer as well. Love the Dave Brubeck Quartet...

At least honorable mention. Gato Barbieri, John Klemmer. Not sayin they’re the greatest, but they both made some great music. Anyone ever hear Eurpoa by Gato?
To: mkmensinger
I agree about Paul Desmond.

Kenny G is not. But I’m thinking of Daddy G, and have suddenly forgotten his real name.
To: Victor
Bobby Keys should be on the list.

Klemmer did the solo on The Dan’s “Caves of Altimira.”

Years ago I saw a movie called
Vamping starring Patrick Duffy as a down-and-out sax player. He plays this amazing solo (OK, he sax-synchs it).
I've tried to find the instrumental, but have had no luck. Bobby Millitello is supposedly the one who actually recorded the sax playing. Anyone know anything about it?

Good names on that list. Got most all in my stacks. Gerry Mulligan sounds bland to me, though. Love Miles, Stan Getz and Coleman Hawkins. Somebody up thread mentioned Gato and John Klemmer. Yeah.

"...Pat Metheny on Kenny G..."
Holy shit....good for Mr. Metheny. Somebody had to say it, and what better voice than Pat Metheny?
I have followed Metheny and his music for many years; never knew he had such a passion for Louis Armstrong.

Pretty good list, as these type of lists go. Of course there are plenty more... Pepper Adams needs to be there for baritone, not just Gerry Mulligan.
Joe Henderson and Michael Brecker need to be higher on the list, above Maceo Parker (he’s cool, nothing against him, but...)
