An autistic high school student in Honolulu raped a classmate while the adult assigned to monitor him was taking a nap, a federal lawsuit filed Monday claimed.
The autistic student had a full-time one-on-one aide because he was known to be violent, the lawsuit accusing Hawaii's statewide school district of negligence said.
The aide was asleep when the 2012 attack happened during Pearl City High School band practice, the lawsuit said.
A 10th-grade girl was in the back of the band at the percussion section when the larger 11th-grader raped her once there, and then again in a curtained area of the auditorium.

Many times a rape victim, for a variety of reasons, will “freeze” and remain silent. Some flee and some freeze. It sucks to be in that position as you try to process what’s happening during a traumatic incident.
“Not sure what her parents were expecting...after all, it is a public school.”
Do you have any idea how stupid you sound?
“Why? Ive seen autistic children behave violently.”
Violence and rape are two different things, so I can see some violent childlike outbursts in autism.
But even then, to my mind the definition of autistic has changed from its original one where Austistic children were so withdrawn they wouldn’t interact with anyone and perpetrating overt acts of rape would be way beyond the behavior of autism.
Bruner’s syndrome (Monoamine oxidase mutation) or something along those lines makes sense. .
I SO agree with you. I know somebody who works as a special ed “one-on-one” at a public high school in California. The stories she tells me make me want to scream! Schools are spending incredible amounts of money on this mainstreaming. The autistic kids’ parents (mostly immigrants, recent arrivals who’ve paid little or nothing in taxes,) are extremely demanding. The school district, terrified of lawsuits, dances to the parents’ tune, bringing in experts, lawyers, specialists, at a cost of millions. Many of the kids are violent, emotionally disturbed, have sexual problems, and so forth. It’s just a nightmare.
Ok, I see why you thought that. I know victims can freeze and all, but I’m trying to figure out the second rape. They didn’t say molest, they said rape. It is apparently difficult to rape someone, say, in blue jeans, when they are standing up and could get away. And after he raped you once. But she might be a quiet, shy girl. I really was trying to figure out the chess moves, not blame the victim. Rape is horrendous.
That makes sense and I considered it, though if he is SEVERELY autistic and tried to attack her clumsily, I can’t imagine it happening twice unless she is very shy and small.
“Do you have any idea how stupid you sound?”
...only to people that still think that parents have ANY CONTROL over government schools.
