As we grow older (like Jack Hammer), the FTF becomes more of a problem due to limp-wristing. The recoil just becomes too severe for us Old Timers. I’ve been forced to move from a .45 to a .380, and even racking the slide on that is becoming difficult.

The old stand-by revolver is an excellent solution, and with modern speed-loaders it’s not much slower to reload quickly than a semi-auto.

Trouble is, we’re seeing these locks on some of the newer wheel guns, put there by manufacturers who need to balm the sensibilities of Leftist legislatures that are demanding such useless gizmos. Smith and Wesson, manufactured in potently anti-gun Massachusetts, is leading the way with these gadgets, and are to be avoided. The good news is that they still sell “legacy models” made the old fashioned way. Or simply buy a quality product on the second-hand market. Excellent second-hand Colts, Smith and Wessons, and Rugers can all be found in good condition if you look around on some of the marketing sites such as GunsAmerica.

Thanks. That has been recommended before. My EDC is a Ruger LCP .380. Love it, but want to move up to 9mm. Thinking Glock, but there are now many options. Wish they still made the Rorbach (sp?) little pocket 9mm.

A trigger where you have to exert a lot of energy to pull it... usually more than 6 lbs. of pull strength. You can call it “lawyer proof” because it is very difficult to “accidentally” pull it all the way through.. however such a strong pull generally means that if you do not have strong hands and fingers or you don’t pull the trigger smoothly but jerk it a bit you are likely to go off target.

Probably rather useful on a gun that stands a good chance, right or wrong, of being carried in a pocket unholstered. Like an LCP. Tiny gun, easy to carry anywhere.

Isn’t that the argument against double action, that the aim can move. And the argument against single action, that it can fire accidentally more easily??

I cannot decide which one I should look for in a concealed carry?

If I didn't have a beautiful Colt Detective Special .38, that Ruger LCR would be a potential purchase.

Why choose between the two? Why not a striker fired gun? Less pull than a DA, more than a SA.

I don’t know how much handgun experience you have, just suggesting that striker fired guns trigger pull falls between the other two. Some people don’t like them (not me) because they don’t have “active external” safeties. The S&W Shield/M&P can be purchased with an external safety, I do have a Shield 9MM. My preference though is Glocks and Walthers.

I have a revolver that is double action only and has a light target trigger ,, no chance of missing with that one... my pistol is DA on the first shot and SA afterwards ... but with it’s safeties (thumb and drop) I carry with a loaded chamber hammer down , thumb safety on... manually cocking the gun for SA will improve accuracy on shot#1 .. but it’s not necessary if you’re in a hurry.
