Yup, we know this. Checking in from Evac Central. We stayed put as our property is level with the dam dam. We have the whole town to ourselves! They had been releasing water but problems with the spillway lead to a slowdown in release. Last storm was a warm storm, melting snow upstream. Filled the reservoir. Forced to use emergency spillway. Erosion crept up toward emergency spillway which if breached would have had 30 ft of lake level empty into the Feather River...not good. Fixing Emergency Spillway now. Plugging holes with rip-rap boulders, etc...Throwing in ord kitchen sinks and DeSotos. No word on when folks can return. They want to empty the lake level by 50 feet. Big Storm coming in on Wednesday. Not Good.
We are staying put.

Are you able to see the dam from your location, which is the same level as the top of the dam? You might want to charge up any video cameras you have (including cellphones) because you might see the beginnings of the destruction of everything essentially downstream on the Feather River to the Sutter and Yolo Bypasses, with possible damage as far south as Dixon! :-O
Thankful you and yours are okay. Thank you for this update.
Good luck. NEVER build down hill from a dam. EVER!
Good luck to you!
Should we be surprised to hear they haven’t maintained the dam as they should have?
The generator intakes that got plugged with stumps and such - are those big pipes out in the lake?
Will the rapid emptying cause serious flooding downstream?
abigkahuna?! I hope you have your surf board waxed up!
