Man trhis list is so far off the grid that some of the below shows far overtake Space 1999:

Quark - never heard of it? Its about a sapce trash collector.

Salvage 1 - never heard of it? Its about a salvage company that is private run. Its the premise I have based my theory we should just send our trash to to the sun for incineration. It would save the planet.

There are others but these two didn’t even get out of the first season before they were cancelled and rightly so. What is on the list actually had a following. When I bring up Salvage 1, no one has even heard of it but it ran for 13 shows or so. I would watch Space 1999 over Quark any day of the week. I rather gouge my eyeballs with a thousand razor blades, again and again (to quote Weird Al) than to watch a single minute of Quark.

I watched every single episode and I like the show. The entire premise of the show hinged on the special rocket fuel they had developed that had much more energy than what NASA was using. They used a converted concrete mixer as their space capsule.

Loved that show! :)

Salvage 1

Ah, yes - a spacecraft made from a concrete mixer's drum. IIRC, the initial plot was to go get all the valuable stuff we'd left behind on the moon.

Quark was never intended to be a "serious" ski-fi show. It was a Buck Henry spoof of the entire genre (but mostly Star Trek, Imo), launched in the post-Star Wars bubble of science fiction popularity resurgence.
