This Burger Is Eco-Friendly — But With The Taste You Know
ABC Action News ^ | Feb 8, 2017 | Melissa Prax

These vegetarian burgers taste, feel and even bleed like your typical beef patty.

Creators use heme — which is the same molecule in your blood — to make the patties "bleed." As NPR explains, "By taking the soybean gene that encodes the heme protein and transferring it to yeast, the company has been able to produce vast quantities of the blood-like compound."

Compared with their animal counterparts, these burgers require 95 percent less land and 74 percent less water. And they emit 87 percent less greenhouse gas.

When people cut back on meat, it can help the environment. But studies have shown only about 6 percent of Americans realize this.

And while some people will likely have concerns over their food being made in a lab, the burgers are free of hormones, antibiotics and artificial ingredients.

Would you try one of these burgers? Let us know on any of our social channels.

3D printed gourmet meals? I’d be all over it in a jiffy.

FROM THE ARTICLE:

By taking the soybean gene that encodes the heme protein and transferring it to yeast, the company has been able to produce vast quantities of the blood-like compound.”

< snip >

...while some people will likely have concerns over their food being made in a lab, the burgers are free of hormones, antibiotics and artificial ingredients.

For those unfamiliar with the concept of eating meat, *most* tribes around the world, including the endangered North American Redneck, drain out the blood before eating the meat.

Free of everything except politically-slanted genetic engineering and, of course, real MEAT.

So...94% less land, 75% less water...so it is going to cost 25% of a yummy cow burger? Nope...2X or more. The thought of eating bloody meat repulses most vegetarians. So...you are trying to make a case for Frankenstein-food that nobody wants. Great marketing strategy there Champ!

How do they taste? Because on the issue of burgers, taste is the most important factor.

I'll pass. If liberals will spit in your food working at a fast food chain where you can see them I can only imagine what they might put in a 3D printer if you couldn't see them...

I don't believe that one bit. It made me think of this though.

You know, if cattle producers fed this “blood like compound” to their cattle, these same people would be screaming.

Do you visit the packing house to watch your ground beef and chicken being processed?

Actually, they admit that Vegetarians are not their target market. They are trying to get real people to eat their burgers. Much larger market.

By all means, develop a new food product. Let the market sort it out.

But while it is doing so, don't feed me this condescending "help the environment" bovine excrement. Not only is it false, it is an insult to my intelligence.

Why not eliminate humanity? Its the fast lane to eliminating climate change.

That is EXACTLY what they want to do, FRiend. They have stated that they want to drop the world population to about 250 million people. "Better for the environment" they say, but what they mean is "easier to control".

Question is...how are they foing to eliminate 6.75 BILLION people?

Worse. I used to live on a farm where we raised livestock that was taken to processing plants. Yeah I've seen how sausage is made and how the cattle were killed using the "cage" and a spike that went through their skull. If we knew how had of our food is processed we'd probably lose our appetite at least for a bit.

Soylent Green and Logan’s Run both have the hero discovering that dead stiffs are ending up in the food supply. Think of that before you eat a lab burger. Creepy
