Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney is stepping up efforts to bring a pair of giant pandas to New York City. Currently only zoos in Atlanta, Washington, D.C., San Diego and Memphis have pandas in the U.S. For years, Maloney has been lobbying to bring the pandas from a preserve in China to the Big Apple, saying the animals will be a boost to tourism and strengthen the city’s ties with the Asian nation.

George Washington Bridge is going to become a lot more colorful

New LED lighting for MTA bridges and the George Washington Bridge were part of a larger announcement in October by Gov. Andrew Cuomo to improve the state’s bridges and tunnels. Cuomo reiterated the plans last month to bring colored lightening to the bridges, which could be choreographed to music to blink, flash and change colors.

I’d opine that’s the wrong kind of infrastructure to blow big bucks on. Jeez!

It’s simple; Can the zoo turn a profit on the pandas? If the answer is yes, then fine. If it’s another burden on the taxpayer, NO.

I remember the toll on the GW bridge being less than a buck. (OK so I’m an old fart) How much are they now?

$15.00 cash into NYC, free leaving NYC.

$10.50 with an EZ pass off peak, $12.50 peak. Again, only entering NYC.

Much rather have roving gangs of pandas than government sponsored Muslims.

“strengthen ties with China? By renting panda at $1 million a year.”

First off, I’m reminded of what excellent businessmen the Chinese are, Rent-A-Panda for $1M a year - lessee assumes all liabilities. Then I recall a news report that a panda at the National Zoo is returning home now that the it’s term of indentured servitude has expired. WHAT A RIPOFF to taxpayers, FONZ - Friends of the National Zoo and whatever other fools chipped in for the “rent”. Also consider that the pandas stink to high heaven and usually are rather filthy.
