Apple today announced financial results for its fiscal 2017 first quarter ended December 31, 2016. The Company posted all-time record quarterly revenue of $78.4 billion and all-time record quarterly earnings per diluted share of $3.36. These results compare to revenue of $75.9 billion and earnings per diluted share of $3.28 in the year-ago quarter. International sales accounted for 64 percent of the quarter’s revenue.

Market consensus called for the company to report revenue of $77.4 billion and $3.23 EPS.

“We’re thrilled to report that our holiday quarter results generated Apple’s highest quarterly revenue ever, and broke multiple records along the way. We sold more iPhones than ever before and set all-time revenue records for iPhone, Services, Mac and Apple Watch,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, in a statement. “Revenue from Services grew strongly over last year, led by record customer activity on the App Store, and we are very excited about the products in our pipeline.”

“Our outstanding business performance resulted in a new all-time record for earnings per share, and over $27 billion in operating cash flow,” said Luca Maestri, Apple’s CFO, in a statement. “We returned nearly $15 billion to investors through share repurchases and dividends during the quarter, bringing cumulative payments through our capital return program to over $200 billion.”

Apple is providing the following guidance for its fiscal 2017 second quarter:

• revenue between $51.5 billion and $53.5 billion
• gross margin between 38 percent and 39 percent
• operating expenses between $6.5 billion and $6.6 billion
• other income/(expense) of $400 million
• tax rate of 26 percent

Apple’s board of directors has declared a cash dividend of $0.57 per share of the Company’s common stock. The dividend is payable on February 16, 2017 to shareholders of record as of the close of business on February 13, 2017.

I am a user of Apple products but their business model of using 3rd world labor in lei of billion dollar profits is questionable. But that is just me, a Nationalist.

Maybe they could start a school in the US to train future employees. Oh wait....generosity is not a liberal trait.

They’d better make their huge profits while they can.

H1Bs and products imported from foreign manufacturers are going the way of the buggy whip.

Sort of like Sony, Samsung, Dell, Toshiba and a host of others all on the same ship - but only AAPL is bad.

I hope you're a user of Apple products. They're more American than all the non-Apple crap out there. My brother-in-law just bought a Lenovo laptop. I pointed out that it is a Chinese product, 100 percent made in China. He cried. Samsung is not as bad, being Korean, but it ain't American. Lots of Apple content is done here in the U.S.A., versus much of the others like Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc. being near all-Chinese.

Despite all those fake news reports of Apple soon to go under because they won’t sell any more iPhones, lo and behold, Apple is still selling lots of stuff. I contributed to that, having bought two new iPhones and two Apple Watches in the last few months.

Working on it. . . was at work today, and now am exhausted. Went back only one other day since the heart attack and slept 20 hours the day after. Mostly not the heart attack but the nosocomial infections I got from being in the hospital: Bronchitis and the morphine they gave me paralyzed my Ileum (small intestine) for several days. Not a good thing at all. Took me longer to recover from those hospital created infections than from the MI. I think the two new medications are taking their tolls in exhaustion too. They are going to takes some time to get accommodated to.
