Nemo is a smart pup..he’s been taking this cough suppressant for his trachea collapse(Which doesn’t do much for it unfortunately) I guess the pill tastes NASTY(Or smells bad) he is supposed to take it every night and my sis checks the surrounding area to see if he spit it out..a few days ago she found the pill the next morning, in the other room LOL..he is a sneaky one his brain at 13 years old, smart as a young pup..just wish we can fix the cough. He had a teeth cleaning done a few days ago, Vet said it would help his cough tremendously, so far no difference
I think you may be mis-informed about the breed.
The Smart ones are called Labs.
The Dumb ones are called Libs.
My Plott hound is smarter than a Yale Law student.
Love to watch border collies herding sheep. They know how to stare down a stubborn sheep and are good at second-guessing them.
Here;s a video of border collie training.

Changed the life of his owner.
A dog can change the way you see the world.
My miniature pinscher has made my world better.
Nice “Pack”.
I’ve had a very smart German Shepard, a very smart Britney Spaniel (she was a champion hunting dog), and a variety of other dogs.
But the “smartest” has to be our Pug. Obedient? Sometimes. He clearly has a mind of his own. Absolutely great with our grandkids.
Then again, people who own Pugs do not really think of them as dogs. They’re more like Hobbits.
Had to give one of my dogs long ago some medicine. Had to physically take the pill and shove it down the dog’s throat, else he would cough it up ant spit it out....................
Our GSD is 10, acts 2, and she is very intelligent.
Then I must have had a Librador Retriever..............
ha!
cats are by far the superior species on Rock Three... but their addiction to tuna is our salvation. despite all their sharp talons, cats still haven’t mastered the can opener yet. they still need us human slaves for that.
dogs, on the other hand, don’t care all that much for tuna...
I may get some flack for politically hijacking a thread, but on smartest dogs, a liberal democrat ranks dead last. They make my kids fish look like Einstein.
My Plotter is smarter than a Yale Law student................
I guess they Hump members of their own sex.
Your chihuahua is smart? Mine is dumber than a box of rocks. He refuses to listen, does as he wills, and generally makes life...shall we say “interesting” with the stupid things he does.
His sole saving grace is the way he and the cat play. He can’t even play well with the older dog, he gets too snippy and the old boy just snaps at him and walks away after 3-5 minutes or so of the 4 pound id10t’s misbehaviour.
Another one of Skidboot. Just minute and half long.

Skidboot had the most amazing command of the English language.
“While labs at Yale, Duke, and around the world are studying this question, for now we do at least have data on one metric: working intelligence”
Smart Labs. Must be the Goldens.
I had a border collie type and that dog was the smartest dog I ever saw
Currently, I have a poodle mix (Lhasa-Poo) and this dog is clearly not the sharpest tool in the shed but cute as a button! At just over 3 years old, we've just discovered that he's going blind due to a genetic defect. His sense of smell isn't much better. He makes up for these short-comings with his acute hearing and size defying bark/growl.
As luck would have it, we began training this dog using visual cues only - not using verbal cues.
Now that we've discovered he is nearly completely blind, we are in the process of re-training him.
Sad to discover there isn't any 'catnip' like herb which we can use for toys to interest him to play with. He does not like the squeeze toys at all.
Just the same, this lap dog is a keeper.
My border collie picked up his water dish and brought it into the living room and dropped it my feet while I was watching TV
I had forgotten to fill it and he needed a drink
My golden retriever is extremely smart and very intuitive. Then at times he is dumb as a box of hammers. He’s fun and then he’s pensive. He is happy, then he looks like someone killed his kitten.
He’s 50 shades of golden.
