We know what’s wrong. What to do about it is a different matter. I don’t think anything less than a catastrophe would sway these people from their views.

Yep. The only thing that will convince them that a thing is poison, if they refuse to believe it is, is for them to ingest it and EXPERIENCE the truth.
Sadly, that is not the best way to learn but, for some, the only way.
