Lies, Dammed Lies, and Statistics. Assuming that the story is true (unlikely) and the data is correct (really unlikely, more likely to have been "adjusted") ....

It's written for the casual reader to think that the temperature has gone UP a degree. That's hardly the case. It's one degree above average. That's why things are "average"....50% of the time the measurement will be higher or equal, 50% equal or lower.

My High Temp, locally, was almost 20 degrees higher than average today. Doesn't mean a thing, two weeks ago, the High Temp was 30 degrees lower than average. I'm not investing in swimsuits or igloos, either way. :-)
