Jersey City is the queerest city in America, at least according to LGBT magazine The Advocate. The publication unveiled its list last week of the queerest places in the nation and Jersey City outranks such notably gay-friendly cities as New York City, San Francisco and ... Buffalo.

Went up to Cap Cod this past summer, hard to beat Provincetown.
Just great. This is where a part of my family settled after they immigrated here. Thankfully, my great greadparents moved from Jersey City to Pennsylvania, but leaving other relatives behind.
(mumbling)... not the kind of squirt he was looking for...
What’s that mayor’s name again?
I prefer the CDC report in this instance. The “real” barometer is incidences of HIV/Aids.

When I was a kid, my parents often took us to Provincetown. My parents were Liberal. At the time (1970s), Provincetown was very “accepting” and you could see people who felt free to have an open lifestyle. It was educational, I guess. A tolerant place.
I went there a few years ago. It’s now an angry place, intolerant of anyone who isn’t a pervert.
Any city which can claim such a title has quite the “feather in its cap”. I want to move there immediately. Not.
That link uses manipulation to play with stats.
Highest HIV per capita puts smaller places at the top of the list.
Versus the more helpful total aggregate of cases in different cities.
example: per capita. 20 people in my little town, if there were 2 cases of HIV it would be 10% and a very high per capita rate.
Also noted it clumped certain areas together to give smaller communities a higher hit.
I understood that, and I don’t think it’s manipulation in a devious vein. It is, as we all should be concerned, a matter of pure numbers when it comes to concurrent diseases representative of a lifestyle.
Regardless of per capita or total cases, this “award” is nothing to be proud about.
I was walking along there with my stepsister and son,( 8 & 16), and someone yelled my face “these effing breeders!”
Took me awhile to even understand what he meant! LOL. That was around 1995 or so.
Funny how that map just drops to zero following all those state lines like that. Does this not seem a little peculiar to you? Like, maybe, incomplete data due to state reporting? I wouldn’t put much store in it.
It’s tripping alright
Im surprised its not Gaylanta...
In other news, soap-on-a-rope sales have steadily declined in Jersey City for decades.
They probably don’t want to pay the rents in Greenwich Village.
It could be what you suggest, or it could be that they simply do not include any data from a state that does not have enough cases to get to 25th or higher.
