With the animal “rights” people calling the shots....I have to imagine that Sea World will close soon.
Ticket sales have been crashing since they got rid of the elephants.
I am deeply saddened having known folks associated with the Big Top from clowns to Elephant Men. It is the end of an era. I think there is still an act that hits the rails.
As for ourselves, we are in the fair industry which is a tangent of the Big Top. The past 20 plus years have seen changes there too. Some fairs are going animal free from wire to wire. Such a sad state of affairs. I have run slum joints and grind shows. Slum pays the bills but grind is in the heart.
Dark days indeed.
Big Apple Circus is also on the verge of shutting down.
It’s a shame if the world loses the big circuses. Great childhood memories.
It’s hard working for peanuts.
Attendance has been falling for years.
Kids these days simply do not want to go to the circus or run away with the circus.
The Ringling museum in Sarasota Fl has a stunning collection of art along with the circus museum with the famous miniature collection
My dad took me to the Circus and the Ice Capades for the first time in 1945. Took my kids and grandkids. We quit going to the Ice Capades several years ago because it just changed too much. Another wonderful memory that kids no longer will have.
Sorry to hear this, but I really prefer the one-ring Carson and Barnes Circus where you sit within a few yards of the act, and can pay to ride the elephants and camels after the show, to being packed into a huge pro sports arena with 15,000 other folks to see an act hundreds of feet away.
That’s too bad. When my daughter was small, we would take her to see the circus every year.
