Full title: 'There are SWASTIKAS on the bottom!' Boot brand is forced to recall footwear after customers complain the soles are covered with inappropriate symbols

A shoe manufacturer has said it will recall one of its boots after customers complained that the sole was decorated with swastikas.

The issue emerged after a customer told of his shock after receiving his new boots and shared an image of the underside of his boot - which appeared to feature swastikas - online.

Makers of the Polar Fox boot, which is still on sale on Amazon for $38.99, claim they were unaware of the controversial marking until spotting a post about the symbol, adopted by the Nazis, on Reddit.

It was also the shoulder patch for the 45th Oklahoma Infantry till Hitler adopted it for the Nazis. The 45th changed it to an eagle because of it.

Hinduism and Buddhism - it’s one of the earliest Aryan symbols. I have a swastika on my finger ring and use it to educate idiots who call me a new-Nazi.

And before Buddhists used it, Hindus did. Navajos used it, too.

The 45th Infantry Division used the swastika as the centerpiece of their main emblem from inception in 1920 until the mid-1930’s. That swastika is backwards from the one of the Third Reich, but the casual observer would not notice. The symbol was adopted in honor of the many Indians that were in the Oklahoma National Guard, which formed the basis of the Division. I was taught in school that it represented the “Thunderbird” of some of the Southwest tribes.

The 45th Division distinguished itself in Italy and France/Germany in WWII and then suffered much in the “police action” in Korea.

Apparently not. Back in '07 the Kossacks looked into the matter.

'Tis interesting that the Cocoa, Florida example is rotated 45°, as is the USN building, with respect to North.

I’m gonna sit right down and right a nasty letter
And make believe it came from a consumer group
I was staring at my tracks
I was taken quite aback
Swastikas there on the bottom
I ain’t glad I bought ‘em

When I visited Mongolia recently, I saw swastikas all over. One woman was wearing a swastika necklace. A beautiful wooden table was decorated with a repeating swastika pattern. The Ulaanbataar airport has historical items displayed in cases decorated with swastikas. And a department store sold t-shirts decorated with swastikas... I avoided buying the one with a huge swastika on the front, but the one that I did buy has an emblem containing tiny swastikas on the back.

Mongolia is a Buddhist country. The swastika is a Buddhist symbol.

Just shows what can happen when you source things overseas. They thought they’d save money, and instead are gonna eat the boots.

Thank you both for the interesting info about swastikas used by the tribes. Pretty neat as historical information.

Like I said it’s before my time. Growing up on the reservation in Shiprock and the Four Corners, I have never seen a single one in jewelry, art, rugs, fairs, or any cultural representations anywhere. The symbol has completely disappeared. I have no personal information on sand paintings or ceremonies so I can’t say if they are used there. My grandparents probably could have attested to the use of the symbol but they are no longer around.

I’ll remember to keep an eye out for the swastika aka whirling logs when I visit Central Street or older parts of Albuquerque.
