How trans activists are unethically influencing autistic children to change genders
National Post ^ | January 12, 2017 | Susan Bradley

Has the transgender movement gone too far?

It began, commendably, as activism for the rights of that very small number of people who experience persisting discomfort with their biological gender. But it has evolved into an ideological movement to normalize the practice of changing genders — and in the process is crossing ethical lines with a particularly vulnerable subset of young people struggling with issues of gender identity.

A recent article by Elise Ehrhard in Crisis Magazine, a Catholic periodical, addresses the aggressive approach by adult trans activists in recruiting adolescents with Asperger’s Syndrome or other types of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to their cause.

Ehrhard has Asperger’s. As is typical among Asperger’s girls in their adolescence, she preferred the company of boys, with whom she identified cerebrally, a tendency encouraged by the bullying she experienced from other girls.

Ehrhard is not transgender — she doesn’t see herself as a male — but, citing a social media campaign featuring the hashtag #AutisticTransPride, she can see why Asperger’s and other ASD adolescents nowadays come to believe they are. This disturbs her. Adolescents struggling to deal with their quirky cerebral wiring do not need to be told they are “a girl trapped in a boy’s body” or vice versa, she says. Nevertheless, Ehrhard notes, many parents are buying into this completely unscientific hypothesis.

As a child psychiatrist with experience in both ASD and gender discomfort, I share Ehrhard’s concern and can substantiate her claim. In her account I see a familiar story of a youth with ASD who feels socially isolated, and confused about sexual feelings as she moves into adolescence.

An absolute travesty that they are targeting Asperger’s Syndrome and other types of Autism Spectrum Disorder. The whole trans thing is another attack on the family and Christianity.

A good review: Johns Hopkins Psychiatrist: Transgender is 'Mental Disorder;' Sex Change 'Biologically Impossible'

The good news is for most kids that dabble in the trans movement, "over time, 70%-80% "spontaneously lost those feelings."

A lot of kids who are 'lost' or have chaotic backgrounds are steered to online sites that promote the trans agenda and then get hooked up with a 'therapist' that helps them 'transition' to trans. They really get confused then.

How much more of this nonsense and perversion do you think God is going to let go on. Considering all the evil in this country. . .IMHO our days are numbered.

The Cleansing, when it comes, will be Old Testament in scope and nature.

I can envision this campaign of delusion having some success convincing autistic girls that they’re “transsexual,” but I can’t envision it working with the boys. It’s really a bit of a hyper-masculine, cut and dried left brain thing in my perception and exposure.

What is insane is that the “transgender” community actually demands strict compliance with very strict, retrograde gender roles.
I actually had a mentally ill man in a dress at my former employer sexually harass me for over a year on how he was more of a woman than me. Criticized me hair, clothing, mannerisms, relative lack of makeup. I took it to HR, and they classified it as a spat between two women.
It had the surgery, but the demands for endorsement continued. “Let’s have girls’ lunch.” “Let’s go out for drinks.” “Let’s talk about X” - like trying to chat about soap operas, and I do not care. It could not tolerate anything less than wholesale endorsement, which I would not give.
It finally challenged me, “What makes you think you’re more of a woman than me?”
“You fathered a son. I gave birth to two children.”
Then it escalated to outright work interference.

The irony is that twenty years ago, I was a tom boy, played readily with boys though I had some dolls. My relatively gender neutral behavior drives my daughter nuts at times because I don’t emote like she does, don’t like the unpredictability of extreme emotion. That’s probably what drew me to engineering and IT versus more female dominated careers.
Per these insane people, my lack of conforming to social behavioral norms for genders (something feminists demanded and value) means I would potentially be labeled transgender. I’m not, but we have doctors endorsing this ...
I agree with Camille Pagalia that transgenderism as a fad undermines traditional feminism (equality, not 3rd wave women are better than men feminism). It also puts women at risk for sexual abuse by predators who claim to be transgenders, undermines social flexibility women enjoy, and encourages the displacement of women by “transgenders” in women’s sports and awards because the now-a-woman trumps the real women in those awards.

It is insane that I’ve been called not really a woman by feminists for not being feminist and criticized by transgenders as less of a woman than a dude in a dress. That both groups work together while undermining the stated intent of each is insane.

For all their screeching and howling about gender stereotypes and roles, they are actually REINFORCING what they claim they are against y cramming people into stereotypical boxes and instead of letting people be who they are, telling them that if they don't fit the stereotype they so long protested against, they are not trans whatever.

What hypocrisy!

Good post, BTW.

I find men easier to relate to for the same reasons you do. And I ended up in a science field and have two daughters who followed suit.

And not one of us are stereotypical, emoting women who like soap operas and *girls lunches*.

If you were, that would be just fine, as long as you were trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, etc., etc. The idea that the only good women are the ones who are most like men is just another tune on the same old misogynist organ.

And stupid parents of the leftist insanity, people who aren’t fit to raise hamsters (much less, children), approve. Actually, I’m not sure that such parents are not exhibiting symptoms of Munchausen syndrome by proxy.

It was arguing that biology was irrelevant in the discussion and assignment of gender, behavior and choices were.

I’ve seen conversations online between “transgender” advocates in and in sympathy with Oregon’s new confidential (from parents) “transgender treatment” of children. It’s insane. These people think that parents’ authority over their children should be terminated if the child “identifies” as the opposite “gender.”

It was out of its mind.

When Odin, my Dobe, was about 2 years old, I had him out to the local PetCo and took him down to Sally Beauty so the girl who worked there could meet him.

The It that also worked there came out, too, and Odin, who just loves the ladies, rushed over to meet “her”.

As dogs are wont to do, he “sniffed” It.

His eyes and mouth flew open like a cartoon dog and he nearly sprained my shoulder, backing away from it, as fast as he could, to hide behind the other girl.

And he is *not* a sissy, by any means...quite the opposite.

But It blew his mind.

Even a dumb dog knows a freak when he sees one.

I always refer to them as “him,” regardless of what they’ve done to themselves.

No woman can meet the standard of “femininity” set by men. I have short hair. You, iirc, keep snakes and ride a motorcycle. So we’re not good enough. On the other hand, women who go shopping with their girlfriends aren’t good enough, either, because they’re “women.”

So, like, WTF? Can’t we all just be humans?
