When Costco created the Wavestorm surfboard, I don't think this is what they had in mind.
Two thrill-seekers jumped into a raging Aptos Creek with Wavestorm foam surfboards during the brunt of Sunday's Pineapple Express storm.
Onlookers recorded the dangerous spectacle on video. -- WATCH HERE.
Tree trunks were among massive amounts of debris being swept down the raging river as the two men jumped into the water.
They were tossed off their boards by the power of the river multiple times, and struggled to climb back on. One man managed to stand on his board for a few seconds with help from a paddle.
Aptos Creek swelled with rain and water flowing down from higher elevations in the Aptos Hills.
The wetsuit-clad duo was swept down the river and out to sea at Rio Del Mar Beach. They managed to paddle from the ocean back to shore, and appeared uninjured from the risky joyride.
Aptos resident Keith Mowen shared the video he shot above with KSBW.
Locals remarked that the stunt was dangerous, and remembered a surfer who drowned in Soquel Creek during a big winter storm in 1980. Edward Arko, 21, drowned while attempting to surf Soquel Creek with friends because his body was thrown against a log, according to his obituary.
Idiots. I saw people jet skiing in a flooded Russian River one storm. Logs rushing past, jamming under bridges, etc. Then they expect rescue services to rescue them.
I will do a lot of dumb things but, surfing amidst broken up redwood trees is way to much for me.
Still, hats off....Dorks
One day it was pouring rain all day. Probably 3-4 inches. Driving down the road, I crossed a small river and saw two guys putting their whitewater kayaks on their truck.
I’ll bet they had a blast. I’ve done the same river 2-3 days after a storm and was scared.
Well, they survived, I guess they have bragging rights. Besides the trees and rubble, what about possible sewage contamination?
I use to swim in the San Lorenzo River.
Didn’t kill me...
This is river surfing the Red Cedar as it flows through the campus of Michigan State University.
That was my first thought. There is a lot of feces in that water.
That is not surfing
Not yet anyway :)...the runoff from Seagate Technology is probably still lingering lol.
SC County raised, I’m a proud Texan now.
To be fair, I lived in Oklahoma for 10 years.
I swam and kayak’d the Arkansas River.
That’s just stupid and reckless. A river is one thing, storm runoff is another.
I have to in Henry Cowell, but doesn’t flooding mean more chance of sewage?
"If I say it's safe to surf this creek, then it's safe to surf this creek."
Completely agree. River surfing is catching a standing wave and surfing in place while the water rushes past. Those idiots on the Aptos were just hurtling out of control downstream, oblivious to the potential entrapment danger they faced.
Nick Carraway...Trump hater!
Aren’t you supposed to stay on the topic of the thread?
Hey Nick...why are you still here?
You hate Trump. We get it.
Your hatred will not be forgotten.
Not when the thread is started by a traitor.
You are the one violating site rules. I get it, you hate Christians.
