The media loves two things; celebrities whining about Trump and fact checks.
Today's post combines both of them together as The Point's Fact Check fact checks President-elect Trump's contention that overrated actress Meryl Streep is indeed overrated. Now try saying that three times fast.
The controversy began when Meryl Streep whined at the Golden Globes that Hollywood celebrities were among the most vilified in American society.
"All of us in this room, really, belong to the most vilified segments in American society right now. Think about it. Hollywood, foreigners and the press. But who are we? And, you know, what is Hollywood anyway? It's just a bunch of people from other places."
"Hollywood is crawling with outsiders and foreigners. If you kick 'em all out, you'll have nothing to watch but football and mixed martial arts, which are not the arts."
President-elect Donald J. Trump responded by calling Meryl Streep overrated. This makes him more qualified to be a film critic than most actual film critics who refuse to recognize this simple fact...

Actors are commodities, to be consumed or discarded at our pleasure.
Very few have above average intellect, which tends to point to the next line here.
Which is why they’ll bend and shape themselves in whatever way they can so that they can be “liked”.
There are exceptions, to be sure. The vast majority of these exceptions are conservative.
I think she’s a great actress. I don’t know about her, personally, to rate her on her political thinking. Her speech suggests she deserves a low rating, however. And the delivery really, REALLY sucked.
I suspected Strep was overrated after seeing The Deer Hunter. Seeing Sophie’s Choice confirmed it.
I think she’s a great actress — can play anything from a Polish refugee (with accent) to other parts.
However, that doesn’t mean she’s better than that outside her field.
A man may be a great brain surgeon but an idiot while trying to invest his money in the stock market. That doesn’t take away from his skill in his field; it just means I don’t have to take his opinions on other subjects seriously.
So, no one will be left to make movies, if such people as Streep mentions are gone?
OK
I think you can always tell it’s Meryl Streep trying to be someone else
I know I’m swimming upstream here but I have never thought she was all that good
Is she over rated?
Four words: Ricky and the Flash.
I remember her from the “Holocaust” mini-series, when she was paired with James Woods. Woods was fantastic in that series, too bad he couldn’t knock some sense into Streep, now.
In the last decade Steep's had six Oscar nominations, one win, and over $530 million in box office from those six films alone. Looks like her fans are still pretty dedicated.
Death Becomes Her.

“All of us in this room, really, belong to the most vilified segments in American society right now. Think about it.”
What?!? Who in the hell is vilifying THEM?? THEY are all the ones vilifying everyone else! Just more liberals projecting and accusing everyone else of doing what they do most. Delusional. FUMS.
I remember her involvement in the fake Alar scare. That was all it took for me. I never was a fan of her acting or activism.
Well, old Gary might just be underrated because I don’t even know who he is, lol.
I agree with you that what she does shouldn't be considered "acting" in the strict sense.
She's basically playing Meryl Streep portraying an iconic figure-for the Oscar nod, of course.
or a
No, I meant Hepburn believed Streep was overrated.
Oldman always outshines the leads in the movies he’s in and I think he’s right leaning.
