This took place in Bolivia, by the way.

"The victim had gone to help her son who had been bound to the tree by angry vigilantes who accused them of trying to steal a car in Caranavi, Bolivia, around 100 miles north east of the capital La Paz."

The Bolivian woman and two of her children were tied to a tree that was infested with poisonous ants. She died in hospital after developing severe throat swelling

Tough noogies! More thieves and their enabling “moms” should die this way.

The Twilight Zone has an episode about vigilantes killing an innocent neighbor...

Yes - except she was not the thief. Someone else did the stealing and she and her boys paid the price of ‘vigilante justice.’

” she and her boys paid the price of ‘vigilante justice.’”

They intended to aid the thief. Screw ‘em. Thieves don’t operate automatously.

People, stealing doesn’t carry the death penalty, what is wrong with you?

I’m not in favor of vigilante justice. If governments cared about preventing it (they don’t), they would administer real justice (they don’t).

In too many places, the favored people and groups go free for crimes which the little people are punished for.

What is more important is that the government doesn’t care at all about crime victims unless they are important people or it advances the government agenda. I know several people in the US who have been burglarized or had their cars stolen. The ONLY action taken by the police is to write a report. There is absolutely no effort made to solve the crime or recover the property.

Note: If you are ever a burglary victim, the police will become very interested if a gun is stolen. I don’t know if this is good or bad to have them interested. The extent of my knowledge on this topic is that they will be interested and pursue the issue far more than if money or valuables are stolen, but I don’t know exactly what steps they will take.

“People, stealing doesn’t carry the death penalty, what is wrong with you?”

When you live in their world where everything is total corruption and theft, you fight back. They don’t live in your country where you are reasonably able to go about your business and not have someone steal your primary wealth like a car, and if they do, it isn’t a big deal.

Live in their shoes then get back to us.

“the police will become very interested if a gun is stolen. “

I once had a gun stolen. The cops couldn’t have cared less. “Happens all the time. We’ll let you know if it turns up in a crime sometime.”

“I’m not in favor of vigilante justice. “

When there is no government-based justice, the vigilantes are the only thing left. The people must protect themselves.

Don’t want to die, then don’t steal.

I am all for killing those that steal. They are predators on society.

“stealing doesn’t carry the death penalty”

It sure as hell should! What the hell is wrong with you thinking stealing is OK, that somehow we should excuse it?

“stealing doesn’t carry the death penalty”

In Texas a person can kill a thief at night. Strangely, not in the daytime. So, yes, it does carry the death penalty. Don’t steal and you won’t get killed. How hard is that to remember??

In California the reason is revenue and control.

There are significant criminal penaties and fines for not "Properly Storing" a firearm. If a burglar gets your gun, it is highly likely you did not "Properly Store" it. Be prepared to pay the penalty.

Of course this section of "Law" is never enforced if a cop has his gun "stolen" or his kid kills someone with it. Be prepared to pay for his extended vacation at full pay and bennies.

“Properly Storing”

Yep. People said, “So, what? No one knows how I store my gun.” Well, they do if it is stolen and reported.

Well, they do if it is stolen and reported.

In California failure to report a stolen firearm is a serious crime punishable by prison, fine and loss of 2A rights. ... It's the "Law".

Except for cops.

Not entirely true. If someone commits a theft and someone dies during the theft, then they are held responsible. So if a lady dies of a heart attack because a theft robbed a store, they can be charged for her death.

The article doesn’t say the sons were mistaken for thieves, only the mom. If the mother died while adding criminals or if she died because of their actions, in either way they could be held responsible for her accidental death in a US court.
