Butt is a senior entering the NFL draft. He was projected as an early 2nd round player. Big financial hit for playing in an exhibition game.

We should take bets on how many take a powder next year. On the pro level I hope Tom brady takes his team to the Super Bowl and REFUSES to play. Payback for the suspension and what’s going on.

Jake is well insured.

Jake Butt reportedly took out $4 million disability insurance policy

Sporting News December 31, 2016

Michigan tight end Jake Butt, who suffered a right knee injury in the Wolverines’ loss to Florida State in the Orange Bowl, reportedly had taken out an insurance policy that would pay if an injury affected his NFL Draft status.

Such insurance policies have been common for many years for top athletes in the NCAA football and basketball ranks. ESPN’s Darren Rovell reported Friday night that Butt had taken out $4 million in total disability insurance, and had purchased $2 million in loss of value insurance he would start collecting if he falls below the second round in the 2017 draft.

Brilliant. Make the colleges pay the premium.

This will accelerate the player non participation in bowl games. And after watching OSU v Clemson last night, it will be no loss.

Brady will not do something as dumb as to piss on his team mates for a Kaepernick protest. He has already been vindicated as the same thing happened this year and it was proven that differing temperature has everything to do with air pressure. Brady is adult and smart enough.

Wow, that's a shame......That was a great game.

Being a Mich fan, that loss was more than made up for in watching Clemson unleash major butthurt on OSU.......

They usually get a bank loan to cover the premium — the loan is typically a 12 month term and the bank has no problem making a college kid the loan and paying the premium directly — they are covered no matter what.

Insurance policies that cover loss of earnings from injuries post NCAA eligibility and pre NFL season (when the players actually start getting game checks) are usually covered by the agent; the premiums are added to the agent fees. I can guarantee you that Devin Cook got one of those 5 minutes after he declared for the draft.

Unless the team playing in a the championship playoff or one of the New Years Day Six bowl games, you will see the very best players play in a bowl game. Not when millions of dollars of guaranteed money in a rookie contract is at stake.

Correction: it should say “you will see the very best players no longer play in a bowl game.”

Outside of the four FBS playoff teams, I think even more, if not most, blue chip NFL prospects will forego playing exhibition bowl games. Believe that will start reaching into the sophomore ranks.

Jake is a good kid from Pickerington, Ohio. Good family, good student and a positive example in sports.

Torn ACL used to be a carer ending injury but that isn’t necessarily the case now.

They’ll have to play if it’s in a contract. Are college players under contract to the university? If so, is participation in any bowl game required?
