Poitín now legal to drink in Ireland as first license given [Poteen, moonshine]

After generations of his family spent their lives as outlaws for making the infamous Irish poitín, Pádraic Ó Griallais has finally been able to carry out the family business in the open just under a decade after the spirit was outlawed.

Taking a career break from his job as a high school teacher to establish a new business based on his old family recipe, Ó Griallais is free to produce and sell the highly alcoholic spirit as he pleases without the interference of the Gardaí [Irish police], who hounded the previous poitín distillers in his family with raids to put a stop to the production of the beverage that was outlawed from 1661 to 1997 due to excise regulations.

The production of the spirit was regulated by the Irish Department of Agriculture in 1997 but only under their specific regulations. Luckily the regulations still allow Ó Griallais to use the botanical bogbean that grows around his family’s homeland around Indreabhán, County Galway, that makes their specific recipe so special. …

Yes, and it has that “small town” feel, which is probably because they’ve never allowed casinos within the city limit, and they limit the growth to 100 new homes a year. Out of the city limits, it’s anybody’s game.

All of the above and more. But they have an excellent little airport where lots of folks go to practice their skydiving skills.

Oh, yes. And the Southern Nevada Railroad Museum is here, just off to the left beyond the edge of the picture.

W00t!

I had a miserable night, and I hope I’m not coming down with something that someone else has been sick all weekend with.

Laundry day. 38 degrees. Ungh.

Tomorrow morning, I’ll go back to Wally’s and finish getting what I need. *sigh* Yesterday, I concentrated on food. I do that, for some reason.

Good morning. I might have stayed in bed longer, but the coffee pot turns off at 0700, and then the coffee gets cold.

I can resist anything but temptation or the smell of coffee.

What a floofy squee this morning!

The laundry is washed, I’ve had a breathing treatment, and now I need to go hang up the clothes. But my doggone back is trying to spasm! It gets cold and then the spasms start, and sometimes, they are bad enough to take my breath away.

My daughter, in her never-ending quest for “beautification,” added another piercing to her body. This time, she had her clavicles pierced. She keeps asking my approval for these things, and she doesn’t really need it. I thought she was prettier before she got all the tats and the piercings, but my thoughts don’t count with that kid.

I have to go back up and open the clubhouse in just a few minutes and then I’ll get the clothes hung up. Then I can rest my back. Haha.

If you have arranged to have your coffee pot right next to your bed, then you're a better man than I am, Gunga Din.

Sadly, the coffee pot is downstairs in the kitchen, so if I don’t want to come down and find cold coffee, I have to get up.

Pierced clavicles sounds like the name of a band.

Pierced clavicles sound to me like a battlefield injury.

I like the smell of coffee and bacon, but I hesitate to buy the latter because no one eats it but me, and I can’t eat it fast enough to keep it from going bad.

Yes, Pierced Clavicles does sound like a band. And a bad one, at that.

If there’s bacon here, Tom eats it, and then there isn’t any.

Maybe Tom should come and visit me. I’ll lay in a supply of bacon and nothing else until the bacon is gone. ;o]

The clothes are all hung up, and starting the drying process. YAY! Of course, in the winter months, it’s a 24-hour job, whereas in the summer, it’s about six hours, max.

But that’s OK. I can live with it. I have one sleep shirt left and that’s OK, too. But another drying rack would have helped enormously. It would help on every day I have to hang up the wet clothes. I just keep buy food, for some reason...

I gave my daughter a business card for my favorite real estate agent, as she thinks they may want to buy a home here. If anyone can help them, he can because he is GOOD! Not to mention thorough, and doesn’t take any guff from the lenders.

The closest she ever got to a battlefield was USN Boot Camp in Orlando, FL.

Buying a house is a significant financial risk, especially with someone else.

Yes, true. They were “friends” years ago, then he moved to FL and she married her current ex-. He came back about two years ago, and when her marriage broke up, they got together again. For whatever that’s worth. They “talk” of marriage, but I don’t know what that means, except that he will probably be her last husband.

My friend Debbie, the international Sweet Adelines quartet-singing champion, got divorced before I met her. (That was why she moved into our subdivision.) Later, she reconnected on Facebook with a long-ago boyfriend, and they got married. It didn’t work out, and she’s now single again. Fortunately, her house was hers and stayed that way.

DP ran into her in Walmart the other day. She’ll be coming over for drinks and a setaround in the next week or two.

That sounds interestingly similar to my daughter.

I just had a text “conversation” with her. She got all her tats and piercings “because she could,” because “all her life” she was told what she could and couldn’t do.

She did what she wanted from the time she figured out she could and get away with it with her dad’s blessing. But you didn’t hear that from me!

The sun is coming in the window again! YAY! It’s a nice day for the MLK parade in Vegas. When I worked, I would watch the parades from a third floor window. It was a good seat, and I was warm!
