Poitín now legal to drink in Ireland as first license given [Poteen, moonshine]

After generations of his family spent their lives as outlaws for making the infamous Irish poitín, Pádraic Ó Griallais has finally been able to carry out the family business in the open just under a decade after the spirit was outlawed.

Taking a career break from his job as a high school teacher to establish a new business based on his old family recipe, Ó Griallais is free to produce and sell the highly alcoholic spirit as he pleases without the interference of the Gardaí [Irish police], who hounded the previous poitín distillers in his family with raids to put a stop to the production of the beverage that was outlawed from 1661 to 1997 due to excise regulations.

The production of the spirit was regulated by the Irish Department of Agriculture in 1997 but only under their specific regulations. Luckily the regulations still allow Ó Griallais to use the botanical bogbean that grows around his family’s homeland around Indreabhán, County Galway, that makes their specific recipe so special. …

I get like that when I have a bad migraine. I feel like I’m listing to the right, so I completely understand how you’re feeling.

Maybe I’ll get something done today, but I won’t plan on it. My days haven’t worked out like I wanted them to, lately. It’s probably because of that middle thing.

I tried lying on my left side to see if it would shift, but it didn’t help. Maybe a cup of tea will make an improvement. If it doesn’t get better, I won’t be able to drive.

Oooh, that doesn’t sound good at all.

The sun is actually trying to come in the living room window, and it seems like it’s been forever since I saw sunshine. I think December 27, when I left Little Rock.

*happy dance*

The tea is making my nose run, which should help. It’s pretty important for me to drive!

If the tea is doing that, I’d keep drinking it, and maybe you’ll get rid of that stuffy feeling.

*hug*

I’m not looking forward to the laundry tomorrow, but it’s not sheets, this time, so I’m good. However, it’s going to be a herky wash. All my sleep shirts will be in this time, and I hope I have enough room on the drying racks.

I’m also heating up some leftover soup, which should make my nose run even more.

Chicken soup should be the magic recipe, I’ve heard. It works, but homemade is better than canned.

“Calgon, take me away!”

The soup, which featured peanut butter and ground chickpeas, cleared my head out. Now I just have a drippy nose!

We’ll be off to church in about 20 minutes.

Speaking of peanut butter, I found some Laura Scudder’s that has nothing but peanuts in it. No sugar, no preservatives, no nuthin’! But I have to stir it every couple of days. :o]

Then for tomorrow I shall be wishing you a Very Happy Birthday.
But not until 1:55 AM, precisely.
:)

Lablady came to visit for almost an hour, but had to leave for a hair appointment. She brought over some counted cross stitch she is looking to get framed, and one of them is a sampler done in two shades of blue (like my kitchen) she did years ago that I have been trying to talk her out of. She said she would make one for me.

My response? “I’m an old lady, so don’t take too long at it. I want to enjoy it before I die!”

She said she and her beau were in Boulder City, yesterday, and checked into sky diving. I told her I wanted to do it for my 75th birthday, and that if I save my pennies, I might be able to afford the $215.

Ha-ha. I need to get moved and get a desk, first!

Anyway, it was a nice visit. As visits with her go.

The sun has been shining and when I went out to sit with Charlie, there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. Still isn’t! But the wind is cold. :o[

It’s nice that you had a visit from your daughter!

I’m having a second bowl of mushroom soup, and then I’ll wash up.

Of course it would have been the tomorrow that was tomorrow on the date of that post...

But I suppose I could settle for them making my birthday a National Holiday and celebrating it on the tomorrow that is tomorrow today.

They just put the wrong name on it..

When I was a young girl in Virginia, we celebrated Lee-Jackson Day at this time of year. James and Kathleen share a birthday with General Lee (Jan. 19). Tom is named for General Jackson, but his birthday is the personally appropriate October 31.
