Like a good American dad, my holster broke on me today while sliding down the slide at the public park with my daughter...

I carry a G19 full time and a G43 on occasion.

My everyday carry is a G19 in a Fury OTW. Minimal printing even with a Surefire X300 and a good split between retention and speed.

The holster is straight up as I despise the FBI cant. The FBI hasn’t had a good idea since they stopped wearing fedoras.

For the G43, I like the Crossbreed mini tuck IWB. You might not be a IWB fan (neither was I) but this will change your mind.

I live on the coast. Year around t shirts and shorts. This holster disappears on your hip regardless of your attire.

I’ve got folks I know who wear compact 1911 frames in that holster who share the same opinion. I’d give it a look.

Years ago I came out of a leather Don Hume open front thumb break. I was going through about two a years as leather concealed in the south ends up feeling like wet cardboard after about six months of daily wear.

I tried HTC, blade tech and several others. I’m sold on what I currently roll with.

Seems that we have similar taste in holsters, so I’ll second the recommendation for one from High Noon by suggesting this particular model: http://www.highnoonholsters.com/slide-guard. I bought the lined version of the slide guard and like its ride height / accessibility. Many other nice holster options from this company. Their craftsmanship and materials are superb.

Let me second fulltilt's recommendation of the Alien Gear holster. I carry my G19 in it and it is very comfortable, even while driving. I got the steel clips option to hook it to my belt and it's solid.

Their proprietary synthetic ‘leather’ really is tough stuff.

'Got me thinking about using s sheet of thin Kevlar liberated from outdated body armor. It could be stitched, and the edges sealed with epoxy resin. It'd be ugly, but compliant and strong.

For 24 years, I conceal-carried in an ankle holster, sometimes mowing the yard and sometimes forgetting that I even had it with me! When I stopped carrying, there was a depression on my ankle that lasted for months.

Sometimes I print. I just don’t worry about it.

Up here in Iowa we wear jackets for quite a few months out of the year. The only time it may be slightly exposed is when I reach for my wallet in the grocery store.

You’d be surprised how unobservant people are. It’s usually only us gun guys that notice someone printing. Most people are oblivious to what’s going on around them let alone noticing if someone prints.

One advantage of being around cowboy shooters and working End of Trail is seeing a lot of good leather.

First off, Merry Christmas!

My EDC is a Milt Sparks Versamax II. It is an IWB, but I tote a “commander” model in 45 for 10 plus hrs a day most days and often forget it’s there. I run it in the 3o’clock position.

I also like Delfatti’s stuff a lot but his wait times are over a year now.

Part of the reason we got open carry passed in Texas last year, is because so many people were being cited for accidentally printing.

Probably the biggest issue for me, is that I don't have a compact, concealable pistol. I'm looking at the Smith & Wesson Shield right now. I got to handle one at my local gun store and I really like it. It's slim, compact, and comes in 9mm and .40 cal. Now that we're past Christmas, I can set a few bucks aside and get one.

Farting or holstering? Leather squeaks and kydex: `screeeeee’.
IWB is pretty quiet and it holds its shape.
I wear IWB if I plan to be in a crowd, maybe university folk, printing with a belt holster, to keep some goo goo Helen Lovejoy from screaming, “He’s got a gun!”

Maybe I should start yelling, “That woman ahead of me just dropped a bomb in housewares! Febreze cleanup in aisle 6!”

One problem I have with the Alien Gear holster is that it’s so comfortable that I sometimes forget that it’s there.

Mitch Rosen makes some pretty nicely finished leather holsters.

You guys have given some great advice, I appreciate everything. Just the links you have provided will give me hours of research.

I met up with a guy at the gunshop today who does leather. I actually have one of his previous holsters, second hand. He was surprised to see that I have it because it was a terrible design (And I agree. It’s comfy but it holds like sh!t)

After a decade of improvement, he would like to work with me on a design that will mirror the best of my old slider, and perhaps offer some improvements on what I like (Detail-less lack of outside stitching, the ability to blend into my belt perfectly when not occupied)

I was also reminded of my old 38spcl holster that I had a long time ago. It had no thumb-break or retention and it had no trigger guard. The belt loop was permanent and along the back. It was a police issue from the 80s but I have no details on it.

Does anyone remember these LE issued 38spcl holsters ?

I forgot to really tag people in that last post.

Again, thank you all for your inputs. I’ll be reviewing everything and letting you all know how it works out.

I think I’m going to take this chance to switch over to the Revolver carry for awhile while I daydream about a replacement for the P30. Revolver carry is for me, as it is for many, a different ball of wax.

I mentioned my favorite OWB holster above for the 38.SPL, and I’ll be looking around for that too. In the meantime my only (And I mean ONLY) holster for the SP101 has been this plastic piece of trash that I picked out of a bucket somewhere. I like picking through the bucket of holster slop whenever I can to experiment with different positions and stuff.

But that old LE holster was the bee’s knees. It was super strange carrying with the trigger exposed but the leather fit so tightly that when in DA the trigger wouldn’t budge. Draw was so easy and buttery-smooth. I don’t think they make them like that anymore. Of course, having an actual S&W 38 M&P from the late 60’s combined with a holster from the early 80s was leather poetry. I miss that little pea shooter.

Thanks for the ping. It’s a very personal decision, as your life and that of others may depend on it. Good fortune.

Here are my primary carry revolvers with leather pancake holsters. The larger holster can be worn OWB or IWB. Google "Simply Rugged" holsters.
