I don’t fly much, but I also park far away from shopping areas, usually seeking a good shady spot to park. I too love the leisurely walk to and from the store, sometimes a mile away. Because I dedicate my day to shopping, I am not in a hurry and don’t mind waiting in lines. Sometimes I engage with the folks waiting, just for the fun of it. I have even prayed with people who weren’t feeling well.
Thaaaaat’s the one.
If you have plenty of time, fly.
Agree...”If you have time to spare, go by air.”
Over 15 years not being an air traveller, and loving it.
Don’t like being in places I can’t be armed.
I only fly Space A on DOD flights these days....... plenty of time to chill, enjoy the facilities of every airbase in the world, the pool, gym, theater, BX, and NCO club, while waiting for a flight. I like to call it “STANDBY AIRLINES” . With good planning a retired or active duty troop can make good time for free !
I’ll drive cross country before I deal with TSA and the associated clutter of nutters.
“My Hubby use to work for an airline and we loved to hang out at the terminals in the airport.”
I try to find a power outlet on an outside wall and plug in my computer. I prop up my sweater as a pillow, lay down and watch a movie or grab a nap.
The bar at Denver’s airport has the best bloody mary’s in the world. My buddies and I truly enjoyed our 3 hour layover there.........
Peeps from the Anti-Destination League. They are everywhere and multiplying fast (well in a slow way),
I don’t LIKE waiting in airports, but I’m OK with it as long as I have some hand sewing or computer to keep me occupied.
CNN drives me crazy, though!!
It’s the getting there, and the TSA fol-de-rol that I hate.
I take it you’ve never been inNewrk.
I take it you’ve never been in Newark.
The 1st Mangelsen pic you posted (Maroon Lake) depicts one of my and my late wife’s all-time favorite places.
My favorite use of my IPod is to drown out the sound of the CNN broadcast.
Heavy Metal works best!
ButI did do a 2 week backpacking trip down in the san juans, about 16 years ago. Absolutely BEAUTIFUl
Don’t forget the Disney parks on a holiday weekend. Lines lines everywhere there’s lines.....of wait, wrong song.
Love it!
Merry Christmas!
Works every time!
I liked being able to smoke during a flight.
I enjoyed the British Airways Concorde Lounge at JFK. Always somebody famous passing through. (Lauren Bacall was a doll; Diana Ross was a PITA.)
Did NOT like the threat of hijackings or mid-air explosions (the Unabomber).
Last time I flew was a couple years ago, non-stop from San Francisco to Charlotte. The TSA pulled me aside because I had an unopened bottle of ENSURE with me. I explained it was my lunch and offered to drink it right there in front of them if that would help. They wanted to "test it" and then pour it out.
A supervisor came over to make an executive decision and determined, without ever consulting me, that I had a medical condition and therefore confiscating the ENSURE might kill me, so I was allowed to keep it. (Actually, that ENSURE was part of my Mom's daily diet; she'd just passed away and I'd brought it along in order to share, symbolically, one last flight with her.)
I detest and am deeply offended by the entire concept and rationale that foisted the TSA upon American citizens traveling in our own country, so that last flight really was my last flight, as I'll not passively condone the TSA's existence by continuing to fly. (If we'd all balked [and refused to fly] when that "agency" was first rolled out, it would've disappeared. The airlines would've demanded that it disappear, imo.)
I'm fortunate that the majority of my flying years were pleasant and sometimes downright fun. In 1988, I happened to be on a flight with the late, great Phyllis Schlafly, who was seated in First Class and busily writing notes. Well, I just had to acknowledge her presence, so after we were aloft I asked a flight attendant if she'd mind mentioning to Mrs. Schlafly that a huge fan of hers wished to buy her a drink? The flight attendant smiled and said, "Sure!"
Next thing I knew, the flight attendant was escorting me to First Class and seating me right next to Phyllis Schlafly! What a gracious, charming, vivacious lady she was, too! We discussed GHW Bush's campaign and how much we wished President Reagan could've had four terms, like FDR. "Fair is fair!"
I politely excused myself after fifteen minutes, aware that Mrs. Schlafly wanted to work during the flight, but how kind and generous she'd been, inviting me to sit with her! Best Flight Ever!
You might, but the rest of us have things to do.
