Will Smith just suffered the worst debut opening of his moviemaking career

"Collateral Beauty" has already had a bit of a hammering from film critics and fans, and things have just gotten worse.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the film has now given star Will Smith the worst wide debut of his career. Ouch.

Despite featuring Smith and a host of other big names, including Helen Mirren, Keira Knightley, and Kate Winslet, the movie opened to just $7 million in ticket sales this weekend.

That puts it at fourth place in the US box office, well behind the top-ranking "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," which took an estimated $155 million in its first weekend.

The film features Smith playing an advertising man who writes letters to the concepts of Time, Love, and Death to seek solace and guidance after the death of his child.

That very silly gun-control movie Miss Sloane was likely produced assuming a Hillary Clinton victory.
It got blasted by critics and the snowflakes are still crying in their artisanal beers, anyway. The movie is a bomb.

I wonder how many scripts for Designated Survivor have been rewritten.

Got to agree. Saw a preview a few weeks ago, and it was one of those movies where they try too hard to be deep. Meh. It’s Christmas week, nobody wants a tearjerker, and we are all out seeing Rogue One which was AWESOME.

It’s funny. I say the wrong thing politically or religiously at work and I can get fired. Famous people think they don’t answer to anyone. Turns out they do.

Did he learn nothing from the Dixie Chicks?

Wanted to cleanse America of Trump supporters.
Trump supporters are now about cleansing America of Will Smith films.

“Enemy of the State” was an excellent movie. It also had John Voight and Gene Hackman who were both fantastic.

“But go watch It’s a Wonderful Life. !! Suicidal man is rescued by angel and shown what life would be like had he never existed. Party!”

You obviously missed the point.

Merry Christmas

I don't think the "stars" of today have anything to with filling theaters...even today's crash, chase, explode and burn movies themselves.

Folks just aren't going to movie houses anymore, except maybe younger couples and teeny daters...and lonely singles.

Why go to a theater when you can stay home of an evening, surrounded by music systems, the TV, your computer, video games and your other toys, rentals of great movies....plus popcorn and all kinds of luscious snacks, sodas, beer, wine, women and song, plus SAFETY...all within the confines of your cozy nest.

Does anyone here know ANYONE who goes to the local Bijou regularly on dark, cold winter nights? I don't.

I, myself, have not been to a theater for two decades starting when the studios and actors started to be so openly leftist. Yet, I'm a huge movie buff. I love the oldie, goodies on the classic movie channels, and eagerly watch the great stars and films from the Golden Age of Movies whenever I want a great, relaxing evening in the comfort of my own home.

Actually, you did.

It’s a Wonderful Life bombed at the theaters when it originally opened. It only became a holiday staple after it lapsed into public domain. That changed a few years back when someone realized the music was still subject to copyright.

IAWL is a dark movie on the surface.

A Christmas Carol is also dark. Ghosts visiting people. It’s dark and creepy and the lead character is pretty mean until the very end of the film.

My point was:

Movies can be dark this time of the year, but they better not suck.

Darkness wasn’t the problem with the Will Smith movie. The fact it’s a crap film (go look at the reviews) is the issue.

“The writers of Rogue One could have taken a crap in the car of Star Wars nerd and they’d have still driven to the theater and seen that film opening night.”

Lol, I saw it today and thought it was much better than the last Star Wars movie. Many of the landscapes reminded me of my days spent in the massive on-line sandbox game Star Wars Galaxies.

I liked him in those movies too. He’s starting to rear up that racist crap, tho. I don’t like that.

Sylvester Stallone (and most of the people he puts in his movies) are conservatives or libertarians. Bruce Willis, Mel Gibson, James Woods. There’s quite a few.

Without special effects, Will Smith movies suck.

Without special effects, moviegoers realize that Will Smith can't act.

I go to movies so that I can see epics on the big screen. Most people don’t have a screen the size of a movie theatre in their homes. We usually go once or twice a year. We just saw Rogue One and might see Passengers this week. Both are epics meant for the big screen.
