I’d love to understand why PKD gets the Hollywood treatment over and over again and most other classic scifi authors never get even one. Force of habit at this point? Why branch out when it seems to be successful?

Good question. I never understood that either and some treatments of his work were just awful.
I have the same sentiments.
I'd like to see a "Repairman Jack" novel by F. Paul Wilson
on the screen. But considering these novels would thought to be
too conservative, too pro Second Amendment supporting, and
very pro individual liberty by Left-wing Hollyweird,
I can understand why they're ignored.
Because he had a lot of interesting ideas you could build a story out of (though often not the same story, most of the movies “based” on his stories take one idea and run in a completely different direction). His kids who run the estate say yes a lot. They don’t charge a bunch, they understand a bunch of small checks add up to more than 1 or 2 big checks and a bunch of rejections. And they don’t complain about the final product, Hollywood really doesn’t like authors that complain.
